On the ruling regarding facing the direction of the toilet.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : We prayed, and it became clear to me that we made a mistake; how is that? It is that when we prepared for prayer and knew the qiblah, we realized that we had faced the qiblah with urination and defecation. Is this house rented or owned?

The questioner : Rented.

The Shaykh : Rented. If it were owned, I would have suggested to you the obligation of moving the toilet, not changing it, just moving it. But even so, it seems to me that you can agree with the owner of the house to explain to him the Islamic ruling that it is not permissible to face the qiblah with urination or defecation. And I, of course, do not know the owner of the house, considering that people in this country are generally still adherent to the religion.

The questioner : ... .

The Shaykh : How? No... so if you... this might benefit him.

The questioner : ... .

The Shaykh : Al-Bukhari and Muslim narrated in their Sahihs from the hadith of Abu Ayyub al-Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
When you go to relieve yourselves, do not face the qiblah with urine or feces, but go east or west. إذا أتيتم الغائط فلا تستقبلوا القبلة ببول ولا غائط ، ولكن شرِّقوا أو غرِّبوا
. Abu Ayyub (may Allah be pleased with him) said: When we came to Sham, we found the toilets facing the qiblah, so we seek forgiveness from Allah. And we seek forgiveness from Allah with him on this night. This hadith is general, whether it includes... whether it is... in a building or in the desert. Nothing exists that restricts this hadith to the desert and not the building. Rather, there is what confirms the generality of this hadith, such as his saying (peace and blessings be upon him):
He who spits in the direction of the qiblah will come on the Day of Resurrection in the state that his saliva will be between his eyes من بصقَ تجاه القبلة جاء يوم القيامة وبصقه بين عينيه
Sunan Abi Dawud 3824Sahih (Al-Albani)
. There is no doubt that spitting is much lighter than urination and defecation. So if the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) stated =
-- Let me look at you properly --
= the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) stated spitting without restricting it to a house or a desert, and it is less than urination and defecation, this indicates that facing the qiblah with urination and defecation, even in a building, is worse than spitting toward the qiblah. There are other hadiths that confirm this hadith. This hadith about spitting is narrated by Abu Dawud in his Sunan from the hadith of Hudhayfah ibn al-Yaman, and there are other hadiths in its meaning that confirm what I am saying. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) entered the mosque one day and found spittle on the wall of the qiblah, so he disapproved of it strongly and forbade spitting toward the qiblah. In some hadiths, it is indicated that if a person praying is overcome by the urge to spit, he should not spit toward the qiblah, but rather to his left or under his foot. This is what should be mentioned and remembered on this occasion.
Let us hear from Farid what he has.

The questioner : Regarding turning one's back, O Shaykh?

The Shaykh : ...regarding?

The questioner : Regarding turning one's back.

The Shaykh : Turning one's back. There is no difference between facing and turning one's back; because the hadith that came regarding turning one's back does not state that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) first did that while remembering, and secondly, it does not state that he did that after forbidding facing or turning one's back to the qiblah with urine or feces, as mentioned earlier in the hadith of Abu Ayyub. So this hadith did not distinguish between facing and turning one's back. So if it comes in the hadith of Ibn 'Umar or from someone else indicating that he saw the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) with his back to the qiblah while on the roof of Hafsa's house, yes, this does not contain that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did that while remembering, or did that while remembering, but it does not contain that he did that after forbidding turning one's back and facing. And at that time, it is possible that this was before the revelation of this Islamic ruling;
When you go to relieve yourselves, do not face the qiblah with urine or feces, but face east or west. إذا أتيتم الغائط فلا تستقبلوا القبلة ببول أو غائط ، ولكن شرِّقوا أو غرِّبوا
.
Therefore, I prefer the opinion of staying with the hadith of Abu Ayyub al-Ansari, and its narrator, as we discussed today, I do not know if you were present or not? The narrator who witnessed the Messenger and heard his sayings knows his narration better than others. So, as you see, he came to the land of Sham and found... facing the qiblah, so he said: ... I seek forgiveness from Allah. Therefore, acting on the generality of this hadith is required, noting that a building does not block the sanctity of the House. If it were a blocker, prayer in a building would not be valid. If it were a blocker, the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) would not have threatened the one who spat toward the qiblah; because his spittle would come on the Day of Resurrection and be between his eyes. Therefore, it is obligatory to keep this hadith in its generality; because it is what befits the sanctity of the Ka'bah. This is all I have.
