The questioner : Is it recommended to say the takbir for the prostration of recitation, with reference to the hadith of Ibn 'Umar in which the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) is reported to have said the takbir for it?

The Shaykh : This hadith contains a narrator in its chain who is considered weak by the scholars of hadith, namely 'Abd Allah ibn 'Umar al-'Umrī. There are two men, in fact brothers: one is this 'Abd Allah ibn 'Umar, and the other is his younger brother, 'Ubayd Allah ibn 'Umar. 'Ubayd Allah is trustworthy, while 'Abd Allah is weak due to his poor memory. These two brothers narrated this hadith. As for the trustworthy one, he did not mention the takbir; that is, the takbir of the Messenger (peace be upon him) for the prostration of recitation. As for 'Abd Allah al-Mukabbir—as they refer to him—who has a poor memory, he included this addition. Therefore, his addition is weak, indeed denounced. Consequently, all the hadiths that speak of the prostration of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him and his family), the prostration of recitation, do not mention any takbir or taslim. The takbir is only mentioned in this specific hadith. So, given the weakness of this 'Abd Allah ibn 'Umar al-'Umrī al-Mukabbir, and the fact that he contradicted all those authentic hadiths, any hadith that is like this is considered a denounced hadith.
