The questioner: ThisThe Shaykh : Muhammad Hashim al-Hadiyyah, head of Ansar al-Sunnah in Sudan.

The Shaykh : Hashim: Peace be upon you.

The Shaykh: And upon you be peace, welcome.

The Shaykh : How are you?

The Shaykh : Hashim: We are well, praise be to Allah.

The Shaykh : Are you both well?

The Shaykh : Hashim: We are well, praise be to Allah.

The Shaykh : And are all the brothers well?

The Shaykh : Hashim: They are all well, praise be to Allah.

The Shaykh : And how is the da'wah going, if Allah wills...?

The Shaykh : Hashim: No, the da'wah is going well, praise be to Allah, and it is moving quickly as well.

The Shaykh : What Allah willed!

The Shaykh : Hashim: Yes, indeed.

The Shaykh : May Allah increase you in success and spread of the da'wah.

The Shaykh : Hashim: O Allah, amen, O Allah, amen. Yes.

The Shaykh : And how is this new political situation?

The Shaykh : Hashim: We cannot judge this new political situation, either for or against.

The Shaykh : Like this?

The Shaykh : Hashim: Yes.

The Shaykh : We ask Allah that the outcome be good.

The Shaykh : Hashim: If Allah wills. As for the da'wah, praise be to Allah.

The questioner : We heard from some of the brothers, in whom we assume good, who are Salafis from Sudan, that they said: those who took over the government recently were once Salafis, meaning they were students of this

The Shaykh : this direction.

The questioner : this direction; is this true or not?

The Shaykh : Hashim: I am personally the oldest among the Salafis, these people who seized power.

The questioner : In Sudan?

The Shaykh : Hashim: In Sudan, yes. I do not know one of them, I do not know one of them. Therefore, I believe that their claim to be Salafis is a statement that needs review, it needs review. And when they rose to power, we had good hopes for them, because they said, "We do not belong to any organization or party, we are only Muslims." We said, "That is beautiful speech." Even a group of our young men went to pledge allegiance to them and offered them advice. They, in turn, welcomed them with a warm welcome and said, "Our door is open to anyone who wants to advise us." So we had good hopes, we assumed good of them. Then they also asked us for help, and our brothers in Kuwait, may Allah increase them in religion, knowledge, and wealth, did not fall short with us. They gave us everything we asked for, and more. We presented it to the state, and they thanked and acknowledged it. Yet we found no cooperation from them with us. They never, never, never cooperated with us. We cannot say they are one hundred percent Salafis, but we assume good of them. They say, "We want to work for Islam." That is it. Islam... from any other side, if it is declared as a general cover, we can contribute to reforming the details. But if the general cover is declared as pure Islamic Shari'ah, that is the important thing, and what we work for with all the strength we have. As for these details, there is back and forth later. But because you cannot say, "I want to raise the people with an Islamic upbringing," while your constitution is not Islamic.

The Shaykh: Correct.

The Shaykh : Hashim: That is not possible. You make an Islamic constitution, and then work on teaching, bit by bit, and you will find things organized.

The Shaykh : Okay, the constitution, Professor, was it changed?

The Shaykh : Hashim: By Allah, up to this time, they are proceeding with the old constitution.

The Shaykh : The old one.

The Shaykh : Hashim: The old one that al-Numeiri declared. That is, even now, intoxicants are forbidden, zina is forbidden, riba is forbidden, cheating is forbidden, bribery is combated. These are all beautiful Islamic things. But we are not able, even now, their opponents say that the September constitution, which al-Numeiri declared, must be abolished. Of course, this is under pressure from the left in the world, not within us. Within us, the left is crushed under the boot, without offense. Yes, but the pressure coming from outside is what wants us to change the word "Shari'ah." But the government, even now, is standing firm, standing firm, really, no one...

The Shaykh : We hope that Allah will increase its strength.

The Shaykh : Hashim: If Allah wills, if Allah wills.

The Shaykh : Okay, and the outsider there in southern Sudan, what is his name?

The Shaykh : Hashim: Gendren, Gendren and his followers. He is still in a state of advance and retreat.

The Shaykh : Advance and retreat.

The Shaykh : Hashim: But we, meaning, we blame the Islamic countries, in particular, for not helping us. Even now, we find no help except very little. Yes, he finds aid from Israel, from America, from Russia. Cuba supplies him with fighters!

The Shaykh: Allahu Akbar.

The Shaykh : Hashim: Cuba, originally, they have no mothers or families, or any settled people living on the street. If they die, no one cares about them. So they hire them for people; they are hired to fight for a price... So Cuba supplies them with men, and the other countries supply them with weapons and money. But we... we find very little. But we do not deny Iraq its right; Iraq, the state, originally helped us with weapons.

The Shaykh: Good.

The Shaykh : Hashim: Yes, Iraq, Saddam Hussein, is the person who gave us the most weapons.
The questioner: Libya?

The Shaykh : Hashim: Libya gave us some oil, and gave us two good planes, they were very beautiful. As for us, we need the rocket launchers, we need the rocket launchers, we need strong weapons. And yet we have the capability, we are able to slaughter them in all positions, but the fronts have become many.

The Shaykh : And the communists now, are they wiped out?

The Shaykh : Hashim: Yes.

The Shaykh : They have no voice.

The Shaykh : Hashim: Absolutely not, neither they, nor the Ba'athists, nor the left as a whole. The left in our country includes... many types. The left are Arab nationalists, Ba'athists, socialists, many things. They have become, in the face of Islam, like Christianity with its various sects; they all united under the global church against Islam. Similarly, the left in our country has gathered, but this gathering we were able to suppress. It has become of no value at all.

The Shaykh : Praise be to Allah.

The Shaykh : Hashim: Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds. We are happy that we found you, O honorableThe Shaykh .

The Shaykh : May Allah make you happy, may Allah bless you.

The Shaykh : Hashim: It has been a long time since we saw you, and we always hear your news, and we saidThe Shaykh : perhaps... we cannot...

The Shaykh : May Allah reward you with good and bless you.

The Shaykh : Hashim: O Allah, amen...

The questioner : Is this the first time you meetThe Shaykh ؟

The Shaykh : Hashim: No, we have met many times, O Shaykh, yesThe Shaykh : We know him from what was at the University of al-Madinah. I attended a lecture of his, and even now I cite it. In the Faculty of Shari'ah, in the third year, there was a Hajj season like this. We went to al-Madinah before Hajj, so the last day was at the university before it closed for the break. So I askedThe Shaykh : 'Abd al-'Aziz ibn Baz, and he allowed him to attend a lecture byThe Shaykh : The topic was Hajj, and all his students were strict Malikis, soThe Shaykh : he said to them, "The best thing is tamattu' (combining 'Umrah and Hajj with a break between them), because the Messenger of Allah does not wish for anything but the best, is that not so?" They said to him, "No, the Messenger of Allah said:
Hold fast to my Sunnah and the Sunnah of the Rightly Guided Caliphs... grip it tightly عليكم بسنَّتي وسنَّة الخلفاء الراشدين المهديِّين ... عضُّوا عليها
Sunan al-Bayhaqi 17:1232
He said, "This is an authentic hadith." And 'Umar used to hit people to make them break their 'Umrah in Hajj,The Shaykh : He said to them: "Good, 'Umar was just, just, and we do not know why he deviated from the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) to his own Sunnah. But you are faced with two choices: this is the Messenger of Allah commanding people to break their Hajj into 'Umrah, and 'Umar commanding people to break their 'Umrah into Hajj. Which of the two is more worthy of being followed? That settled it for them! They said, 'The Messenger,' and the problem was resolved."
Second: We were in Mina, and we had a group of Hanafis who were with us in Hajj that year, and we were hastening, soThe Shaykh : Yusuf al-Dib – may Allah have mercy on him and reward him – a doctor, said: "We – by Allah – the Hanafis, tonight we can throw the stones at the Aqabah pillar in the morning, we can throw in the morning and then leave and disengage, that is all." So Allah willed that we were withThe Shaykh : having breakfast at al-Banna's camp, and then he asked usThe Shaykh : , I asked him, I said to him: "My master, the Hanafis said it is possible on the last day of throwing in the morning; what is their evidence?" He said to me: "Ask them themselves, there is no evidence, but regarding the Aqabah pillar which ends at Dhuhr, in 'Muslim' the Messenger – meaning one asked him – he said: 'Did you throw after you had become evening?' He said to him:
Do it, and there is no harm افعل ، ولا حرج
, that is all ...
Do it, and there is no blame on you. افعل ولا حرج
, but before the sun passes its zenith there is nothing, after the sun passes its zenith it works until twelve at night, there is no objection, so these are things that happen in religion and do not end, yes."

The Shaykh: What Allah willed! You reminded us of something we had forgotten.

The Shaykh : Muhammad Hashim: No, by Allah, I do not forget, ... a matter we were pleased with and it entered our minds, and we benefited from it, praise be to Allah.

The Shaykh : May Allah reward you.

The Shaykh : Hashim: And we began to apply it practically.

The Shaykh : Praise be to Allah.

The Shaykh : Hashim: And we attribute it toThe Shaykh !

The Shaykh : May Allah bless you.

The questioner: Shaykh Nasser, did you visit Sudan?

The Shaykh: How? I did not go, I did not go, the secret of the group – in the Sufi expression! – is weak, they could not drag us to them.

The Shaykh : Hashim: No, absolutely not, Shaykh, we are able, but people said whatThe Shaykh : does not come to Sudan, Sudan does not benefit him at all, the weather is hot ... .

The Shaykh: No, by Allah, it is the age, Shaykh.

The Shaykh : Hashim: Excuse me, yes, the age, we give it consideration by text, no, by Allah, you and I, perhaps we are of the same age.

The Shaykh : What Allah willed.

The Shaykh : Hashim: By Allah, I am eighty years old.

The Shaykh: But you, what Allah willed, you are young.

The Shaykh : Hashim: Young, young, but let me be silent.

The Shaykh: How old are you?

The Shaykh : Hashim: Eighty years old, my master.

The Shaykh : What Allah willed.

The Shaykh : Hashim: Yes, yes, yes, eighty years old, praise be to Allah.

The Shaykh : What Allah willed.

The questioner: We want to wrestle, you andThe Shaykh : May Allah bless you.

The Shaykh : Hashim: Oh? No, no, no,The Shaykh : ... Shaykh, ... he said no, I am a man from Europe, the Arabic language is not mine, that is the meaning of my words, and show me your words, are you an Arab? He was silent, 'Abd al-Rahman was silent, yes.

The questioner: The da'wah ... ?

The Shaykh : Hashim: But the da'wah, we present it and we welcome it with the utmost welcome, but do you want comfort or do you want hardship?

The Shaykh : What Allah willed, what Allah willed.

The Shaykh : Hashim: If we come to Sudan, will we be comfortable?

The questioner : ... .

The Shaykh : Hashim: ... Father, we are not for winter or summer, not for winter or summer, the general weather in the country, you also had foresight, but the youth are fiery, they wantThe Shaykh : to remain at any cost.

The questioner: ... the sheikhs about the youth.

The Shaykh : Hashim: By Allah, the political situation in the country, first the sects, the Sufi sect always monopolizes it, because the governments consider it their popular base, and therefore they never break a rule for them, we once brought Jamil Gazi – may Allah have mercy on him –, so an order came that he should not give a lecture in the club, do you accept this talk?

The questioner: But the situation has changed.

The Shaykh : Hashim: Excuse me.

The questioner: Meaning, in parentheses, what about the direction of the da'wah? Meaning, we can say the Sudanese government is, regarding Islam, a great government, regarding Islam.

The Shaykh : Hashim: Beautiful, by Allah.

The questioner: But regarding the Salafi details, it needs a pause, okay?

The Shaykh : Hashim: Okay.

The questioner: Because I fear the brothers will feel that the direction of such a government is not the Islamic direction, that is the purpose, but their position may be regarding some Salafi administrative issues, they justify this with certain justifications, meaning they justify this with certain justifications, but as for the group, I was informed – and this we need to verify – they said that all the mosques in the army are opened for the supporters of the Sunnah as lectures, as delivering sermons, I do not know about the truth of this?

The Shaykh: It appears they know this matter better, so seize the opportunity, ask him as the doctor asked.

The Shaykh : Hashim: We respond to this, Adnan, the reality is the army brought in our son Salah Tayfur from the preachers, and he prays as imam in one of the ordinary mosques of Omdurman, soldiers from the engineers' division pray with him, so they once asked him to pray with them in the division, in the division mosque, so he prayed with them and the commander-in-chief was among the worshippers, 'Abd al-Majid Hamad Khalil – may Allah remember him with good –, and when the next Friday came, he did not find the imam of the previous Friday; so he asked where the imam is, and they said, by Allah, we borrowed him on loan.

The Shaykh : Yes?

The Shaykh : Hashim: They borrowed him on loan, so they invited him, directed him to come to pray on Friday ... , and then they told him: "Professor Salah, I would like to contract with you, to be the imam of the army, and give you the position of Qadim, meaning a tag and a dabura, the position of Qadim," he said, by Allah, it honors me, but I am not free, I belong to a body, I will return to that body and take its opinion, then I will come to you, so he came and we told him this is a new opening, this is a new opening, you must accept, so he went and said, that is all, I accepted it, but I do not want the position, I am, praise be to Allah, in sufficiency.

The Shaykh: Volunteering, meaning?

The Shaykh : Hashim: Yes, volunteering, that is all, so the boy is clever, and at the same time he is not rigid, he is not one of the rigid youth, flexible youth.

The Shaykh : Very good.

The Shaykh : Hashim: He studies the conditions around him, and he lives the Sunnah in these conditions with its reality.

The Shaykh : Very good.

The Shaykh : Hashim: And therefore he was able to monopolize many of the officers in the army, and there is one who is not pleased with him.

The Shaykh : It is necessary.

The Shaykh : Hashim: And there are soldiers who are not pleased with him, especially when the matter of amulets came, they are all wearing amulets on their hands, and many troubles.

The Shaykh : Allahu Akbar, yes, indeed.

The Shaykh : Hashim: So he also guides through his way; meaning he took imams for multiple mosques in the army, but is it that he opened the field for all the Sunnah people to come? No, that is not correct, meaning these mosques, the people who go to them are those they choose, meaning Salah says – for example – I want 'Abd al-'Aziz to come to give a lesson, he asks permission from the commander of the region to allow 'Abd al-'Aziz to give a lesson, but for him to come like that silently without asking permission? This is not correct in the army.

The Shaykh: No, he – may Allah bless you – asking permission means there is no objection to it; because this is the choice of the organization.

The Shaykh : Hashim: Really.

The Shaykh: But if the Salafis ask permission, will they be prevented because they are Salafis or supporters of the Sunnah, or not? Perhaps he is hinting at this?

The Shaykh : Hashim: No, they do not prevent, if they allowed Salah to bring one or two of them, no, the supporters of the Sunnah are not consistent, and they do not find opposition, but they come and find discussion, if it was not the supporters of the Sunnah who are coming to discuss, he is clever, he falls into a prohibition, the matter needs flexibility, it needs flexibility and breadth of horizon.

The questioner: In fact, when we were there, they did not allow any party, even the Islamic ones, to give a lecture, so when it came to intelligence, I came or someone else, they allowed them immediately, meaning they said a kind word; they said you are honorable because you did not intervene in politics.

The Shaykh: Yes.

The Shaykh : Hashim: The first thing is that you did not intervene in politics. We do not accept that at all; it is considered a betrayal of our country. Our country is governed by a non-Islamic rule. If we remain passive and stand by... then we have no positive action. We must engage in this politics and pull it toward Sharia-compliant politics. Non-Sharia politics is based on fraud, deception, cheating, and swindling. So we enter every aspect of politics to correct the wrong situation. We must not be passive at all; we must be positive in society. Do you understand, my brother? So my brother Ismail reminds me, saying they asked us, and indeed we built mosques for them. The army itself asked us, and we built mosques for them. And I say—long may my tongue be: May Allah guide the people of Kuwait to good, increase their wealth, and bless it, because they are the ones who respond to our requests, and we build these mosques at their expense. Likewise, we built hospitals at their expense, and health centers at their expense. The state asked us to build a facility for the rehabilitation of the disabled. The people of Kuwait responded and gave us three and a half million Sudanese pounds. We built these things. So after Allah, the credit belongs to Kuwait. The credit belongs to Kuwait. In some countries, they helped us with aid, but it was not effective except for Kuwait.
