Did the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) wipe over his neck, or did he encourage doing so?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : It is authentic from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) that he wiped over his neck during wudu, or from any of his Companions? This is the first question.
The answer is: No authentic hadith has come from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) stating that he wiped over his neck or encouraged doing so. Rather, authentic hadiths have come in al-Bukhari, Muslim, and others from a group of the Companions of the Messenger (peace be upon him) describing his wudu (peace and blessings be upon him), and none of them mentioned at all that he (peace and blessings be upon him) wiped over his neck. Therefore, the correct school among the schools followed today in this issue is the school of Imam al-Shafi'i (may Allah have mercy on him), who does not consider wiping the neck to be prescribed (mashru') because it is not established from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family). As for the hadith:
Wiping the neck is safety from the chains on the Day of Resurrection مسح الرقبة أمانٌ من الغلِّ يوم القيامة
, it is a fabricated hadith, as I had explained long ago in the early parts of my book "Silsilat al-Ahadith al-Da'ifah" (The Chain of Weak Hadiths). As for whether this came from any of his Companions (peace be upon him), that is something we do not know.
