The Shaykh : A questioner says: Ibn Taymiyyah said: "Allah establishes a just state, even if it is a state of disbelief, and He does not establish an unjust state, even if it is a Muslim state." We ask for an explanation of this statement, along with the scriptural evidence for it and your opinion on it.
I do not have this statement by Ibn Taymiyyah at hand, but the noble verse that says:[Hud 11:117], some scholars of exegesis mentioned this meaning that is attributedThe questioner : to Ibn Taymiyyah (may Allah have mercy on him); that is because injustice is the cause of the ruin of lands and the destruction of people. So if a nation or state is in a state of disbelief but rules with justice among its people, this justice that people know by their innate natural disposition, if they rule by it, their state will stand and last for a long time, and history is full of this. And on the contrary, if rulers rebel and oppress the people, that becomes a cause for the rise of revolutions, and what is called today military coups, and the situation in those lands will not stabilize until the people destroy one another, and that becomes a cause for opening the way for another nation to enslave them. And there is no doubt that Islam came with everything that is good in this world and the Hereafter, and among that is the command to be just, and the command to establish the fixed Qur'anic punishments among people, until he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Sahih Ibn Hibban 22:2, and this is nothing but to achieve justice in the Muslim society. So if we assume a Muslim society that does not establish the ruling of Allah (Mighty and Majestic) on earth, and that is something that cannot be established except upon establishing justice among the Muslims, then the state of this society cannot stand; because at that time it is ruling by other than what Allah has revealed, and whoever rules by other than what Allah has revealed has exposed his nation and his state to collapse.
This is what I have at hand now as an answer to this first question.
I do not have this statement by Ibn Taymiyyah at hand, but the noble verse that says:
And your Lord would not have destroyed the cities unjustly while their people were reformers.
وَمَا كَانَ رَبُّكَ لِيُهْلِكَ القُرَى بِظُلْمٍ وَأَهْلُهَا مُصْلِحُونَA fixed Qur'anic punishment established on earth is better than rain for seventy mornings.
حدٌّ يُقام في الأرض خيرٌ من مطر سبعين صباحًاThis is what I have at hand now as an answer to this first question.
