Explanation of his saying (peace and blessings be upon him): “O My servants, you are all naked except for the one I have clothed, so seek My clothing and I will clothe you. O My servants…”

The Shaykh : Then He said (Glorified and Exalted is He): Sahih Muslim 2577a; because when a human being is born, he is born—as it is said—as Allah created him, with no clothing on him. Sahih Muslim 2577a. This phrase is understood in the same way as the one before it and the one before that; that is, man turns to Allah and he is in need of Him in everything, even in clothing. Indeed, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: . The *shis'* is the strap of the sandal. If it breaks, even though this is a trivial thing, he goes to the cobbler, who charges him two or three francs, and he drives in two or three nails… Even for this, he asks his Lord (Blessed and Exalted is He). Our Lord does not descend from the height of His Throne to untie his sandal for him, but when he asks Him for the strap of his sandal; that is, to make it easy for him to find someone to mend it for him.
Therefore, turning to Allah (Mighty and Majestic) to facilitate the means of sustenance and the means of clothing is a matter of great importance that a person must not neglect; because in reality, these turnings to Allah for these requests, even if they are easy for Allah, are part of the perfection of the servant’s servitude to Allah (Mighty and Majestic); because when you ask your Lord even for the strap of your sandal, you are establishing your need for Him even in the most trivial of matters. And for that reason, he (peace and blessings be upon him) said:, then he recited His saying (Blessed and Exalted is He): [Ghafir 40:60].
Sahih Muslim 2577a. Allah (Mighty and Majestic) describes Himself in many verses as the All-Forgiving, the Merciful, [Nuh 71:10-11], and so on. Also, in this hadith, He describes Himself as the All-Forgiving, and He describes the servant as one who errs by night and day. So what is the path of salvation for this human being from the consequences of his many sins which he commits and perpetrates by night and day? What is the salvation from that?
, seek from Me forgiveness for your sins, [Taha 20:82]; and for that reason, he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Sahih Muslim 2749. This hadith is connected by a strong link to this passage of this hadith: Sahih Muslim 2577a. It is as if He is saying (Blessed and Exalted is He) in this Holy Hadith that it is the nature of humans to err, and not only to err, but to exaggerate in sin; so he errs by night and day. Therefore, He emphasized this meaning in the other hadith, which is His saying (peace and blessings be upon him): Sahih Muslim 2749; meaning He decreed non-existence for you, and He created another creation whose nature is to err. If we did not err… regarding sin; as long as it is like this, he is saying: Sahih Muslim 2749; No, this is not the intended meaning of the hadith. Rather, the intended meaning of the hadith is that since it is the nature of humans to err, one should not despair of the Spirit of Allah, but rather turn to Allah after he errs and ask Him (Blessed and Exalted is He) to forgive him; so Allah forgives him because He is the All-Forgiver. For whom? For the one who seeks His forgiveness. As for the criminal who sins and persists in his sin and his transgression, and then does not turn to his Lord to ask Him for forgiveness; Allah does not forgive him.
Therefore, if the matter is as this last hadith indicates, and as came in another hadith in whose chain there is some weakness, which is:Sunan Ibn Majah 4251Hasan (Darussalam); then since it is the nature of the human being to err, let him follow his error with repentance to Allah and asking his Lord (Blessed and Exalted is He) to forgive his sins, no matter how many they are.
We will suffice with this amount for tonight. Let us open the door for questions and answers.
O My servants, all of you are naked
O My servants, all of you are naked except for those I have clothed, so seek clothing of Me and I shall clothe you.
Let one of you ask his Lord even for the strap of his sandal
Therefore, turning to Allah (Mighty and Majestic) to facilitate the means of sustenance and the means of clothing is a matter of great importance that a person must not neglect; because in reality, these turnings to Allah for these requests, even if they are easy for Allah, are part of the perfection of the servant’s servitude to Allah (Mighty and Majestic); because when you ask your Lord even for the strap of your sandal, you are establishing your need for Him even in the most trivial of matters. And for that reason, he (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Supplication is worship
And your Lord says, "Call upon Me; I will respond to you." Indeed, those who disdain My worship will enter Hell [rendered] contemptible.
O My servants, all of you are naked except for those I have clothed, so seek clothing of Me and I shall clothe you. But indeed, I am the Perpetual Forgiver of whoever repents and believes and does righteousness and then continues in guidance.
وَإِنِّي لَغَفَّارٌ لِمَنْ تَابَ وَآمَنَ وَعَمِلَ صَالِحًا ثُمَّ اهْتَدَىif you were not to commit sin, Allah would sweep you out of existence and He would replace (you by) those people who would commit sin and seek forgiveness from Allah, and He would have pardoned them.
