Continuation of the explanation of the statement of Imam al-Nawawi (may Allah have mercy on him) regarding what he quoted: "."

The Shaykh :
O My servants, all of you are hungry except for those I have fed, so seek food of Me and I shall feed you. O My servants, all of you are naked except for those I have clothed, so seek clothing of Me and I shall clothe you.
Sahih Muslim 2577a
These two phrases, hunger and nakedness, were mentioned by Allah (Mighty and Majestic) after He mentioned guidance, because guidance provides nourishment for the heart through knowledge and faith, and for the limbs through righteous deeds. As for food and drink, and as for food and clothing, they provide nourishment for the body, for the body does not function properly without food, and it is not covered without clothing. For this reason, He said:
O My servants, all of you are hungry except for those I have fed, so seek food of Me and I shall feed you.
Sahih Muslim 2577a
And our Lord (Mighty and Majestic) spoke the truth: we are all hungry except the one whom Allah feeds. And were it not that Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) made easy for us what becomes our food, we would have perished. Allah the Exalted clarifies this in Surat al-Waqi'ah:
(63) And have you seen that [seed] which you sow? (64) Is it you who makes it grow, or are We the grower?
[Al-Waqi'ah 56:63-64]
The answer is: No, it is You, O our Lord, who planted it, for Allah says:
(65) If We willed, We could make it [dry] debris, and you would remain in wonder, (66) [Saying], "Indeed, we are [now] in debt; (67) Rather, we have been deprived."
[Al-Waqi'ah 56:65-67]
And consider how He said:
If We willed, We could make it [dry] debris
[Al-Waqi'ah 56:65]
So if it is made into rubble after their hearts have become attached to it, that becomes more severe in its sting. Therefore, He said:
If We willed, We could make it [dry] debris
[Al-Waqi'ah 56:65]
and He did not say, "If We had willed, We would not have grown it."
(68) And have you seen the water that you drink? (69) Is it you who brought it down from the clouds, or is it We who bring it down?
[Al-Waqi'ah 56:68-69]
This means from the clouds,
or is it We who bring it down?
[Al-Waqi'ah 56:69]
because the water we drink from the clouds is sent down by Allah (Mighty and Majestic) to the earth, and He channels it into springs, entering it into the ground and letting it flow beneath the earth like rivers. Then it is extracted by the tools that Allah (Mighty and Majestic) has made subservient for people, at every time according to their need. This is part of the wisdom of Allah (Mighty and Majestic) in storing water in the belly of the earth. If it had remained on the surface of the earth, it would have spoiled and spoiled the air, and killed the livestock, and indeed killed humans from its smell and stench. But Allah (Mighty and Majestic), by His wisdom and mercy, made this earth absorb it and channel it into springs within it, until the need of people for it arises, and then they dig for it and reach it.
(68) And have you seen the water that you drink? (69) Is it you who brought it down from the clouds, or is it We who bring it down?
[Al-Waqi'ah 56:68-69]
And it is Allah who sends it down (Mighty and Majestic). If all the people of the nation were to gather to send down a single drop from the sky, they would not be able to find a way to do so. But it is Allah (Mighty and Majestic) who sends it down by His power and mercy. So we do not eat anything, whether food, something eaten, or something drunk, except by Allah (Mighty and Majestic). For this reason, He said:
all of you are hungry except for those I have fed, so seek food of Me and I shall feed you
Sahih Muslim 2577a

Seeking food from Allah (Mighty and Majestic) is done by speech and by action.
As for by speech, it is that you ask Allah (Mighty and Majestic) to feed you and to provide for you.
As for by action, it has two aspects:
The first aspect is righteous deeds, for righteous deeds are a cause for the abundance and expansion of sustenance. Allah the Exalted said:
And if only the people of the cities had believed and feared Allah, We would have opened upon them blessings from the heaven and the earth; but they denied [the messengers], so We seized them for what they were earning." ولو أن أهل القرى آمنوا واتقوا لفتحنا عليهم بركات من السماء والأرض ولكن كذبوا فأخذناهم بما كانوا يكسبون
[Al-A'raf 7:96]
And He said:
(65) And if only the People of the Scripture had believed and feared Allah, We would have removed from them their misdeeds and admitted them to Gardens of Pleasure. (66) And if only they upheld [the law of] the Torah, the Gospel, and what has been revealed to them from their Lord, they would have consumed [provision] from above them and from beneath their feet.
[Al-Ma'idah 5:65-66]
from above them, from the fruits of trees, and from beneath their feet, from the fruits of crops. The point is that this is among the causes of Allah feeding us.
The second aspect is the practical seeking of food, which is that we till the land, dig wells, extract water, plant grains, plant trees, and the like. So seeking food is done by speech and by action. The action has two aspects: the first is righteous deeds, and the second is the physical, material causes, such as tilling and digging wells, and the like. And His saying (Glorified is His mention):
So ask Me for food, and I will feed you فاستطعموني أطعمكم
This is the answer to a stipulated condition, or the answer to the command that was in the condition, meaning that if you seek food from Allah, then Allah will feed you. But seeking food from Allah (Mighty and Majestic) requires an important matter, which is having a good opinion of Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He). You should have a good opinion of your Lord that if you seek food from Him, He will feed you. As for if you call upon Allah while you are heedless and distracted, or if you do the causes while relying on your own strength rather than on your Lord, then you may be left without support, may Allah protect us from that. But seek food from Allah alone.
Ask Me for food, and I will feed you استطعموني أطعمكم
O My servants, all of you are naked except for those I have clothed, so seek clothing of Me and I shall clothe you.
Sahih Muslim 2577a
You are all naked except the one I clothe, because a person comes out of his mother's womb without any clothes, bare, with no clothes and no hair to cover him, as is the case with animals. This is part of the wisdom of Allah (Mighty and Majestic). It is part of Allah's wisdom that He made us come out with our skins exposed, our skins bare, so that we know that we are in need of clothing to cover our private parts physically, just as we are in need of righteous deeds to cover our private parts spiritually, for piety is a garment, as He said:
and the garment of righteousness, that is best
So look within yourself: you are in need of physical clothing because you are naked, and you are also in need of spiritual clothing, which is righteous deeds, so that you do not be naked, so that you do not be naked. For this reason, some interpreters of dreams have mentioned that if a person sees himself naked in a dream, he needs to seek forgiveness frequently, because this is a sign of the deficiency of his piety. So piety is a garment in all cases. We are naked except by the clothing of Allah (Mighty and Majestic). And Allah has made subservient for us from clothing what we use to clothe our bodies, praise be to Allah, of various types of clothing of every kind, especially in the wealthy countries that Allah (Mighty and Majestic) has tested with wealth. For wealth is in reality a trial, and the community is feared from it, as Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
By Allah, I do not fear poverty for you, but I fear that the world will be opened up to you and you will compete for it as those before you competed for it, and it will destroy you as it destroyed them.
Wealth is a trial, a affliction that requires patience in performing what is obligatory in it, and gratitude for what is obligatory toward it. In any case, I say that Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) has bestowed upon us clothing, and were it not that Allah made it easy for us, it would not have been easy. If you look at creation in your current time and reflect, you will find, as we have heard, people who spend the night naked, with nothing on their bodies to cover them. Perhaps they cover their private parts with trees and the like, and they have nothing on them to cover them. The One who covered you and bestowed upon you is Allah. For this reason, He (Mighty and Majestic) said:
O My servants, all of you are naked except for those I have clothed, so seek clothing of Me and I shall clothe you.
Sahih Muslim 2577a
And we say regarding His saying:
Ask Me for clothing, and I will clothe you استكسوني أكسكم
as we said regarding His saying:
So ask Me for food, and I will feed you استطعموني أطعمكم
meaning that seeking clothing is done by speech and by action. As for speech, it is that you ask Allah (Mighty and Majestic) to clothe you. And if you ask Allah to clothe your body physically, ask Allah to clothe your spiritual private part with success in obeying Allah.
The second is seeking clothing by action, and that is in two ways: the first way is by righteous deeds, and the second way is by doing the physical causes that lead to clothing, such as establishing trades and factories, and the like.
In linking hunger and clothing with guidance, there is a suitability, because hunger is in reality the inner clothing of the body. For hunger and thirst mean the emptiness of the stomach from food and drink, and this is a state of nakedness for it. And clothing is the outer covering of the body. And guidance is the covering of the most important intended thing, which is the covering of the hearts and souls from the defects of sins. And success is from Allah.
The reader: The author (may Allah have mercy on him) quoted in the context of the hadith of Abu Dharr: "
O My servants, you sin by night and by day, and I forgive all sins, so seek forgiveness of Me and I shall forgive you. O My servants, you will not attain harming Me so as to harm Me, and will not attain benefitting Me so as to benefit Me.
Sahih Muslim 2577a
