Explaining the meaning of: “Whoever introduces a good practice in Islam” and “Whoever introduces a bad practice in Islam,” and the way to know them.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh:
He who sets a good precedent in Islam مَن سنَّ في الإسلام سنَّةً حسنة
Sahih Muslim 1017a
. The meaning of “whoever introduces” is: whoever opens a path, a good path.
He who sets a good precedent in Islam مَن سنَّ في الإسلام سنَّة حسنة
Sahih Muslim 1017a
.
Now we ask: What is the way to know the good practice so that we may follow it and hold fast to it? And what is the way to know the bad practice so that we may avoid it and stay far from it? Is there any way other than the way that the Messenger (peace be upon him) brought, in the Book and the Sunnah? The answer is: there is nothing else, because he (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
I have left with you two matters by which you will not go astray as long as you hold fast to them: the Book of Allah and my Sunnah, and they will not separate until they come to me at the Pond. تركتُ فيكم أمرَين لن تضلُّوا ما إن تمسَّكتم بهما ؛ كتاب الله وسنَّتي ، ولن يتفرَّقا حتى يَرِدَا عليَّ الحوض
; therefore, the way for us to know the good practice and the bad practice is the Shari'ah, in the Book and the Sunnah. This is a reality that no scholar, a true scholar, can dispute or argue with, if his knowledge is derived from the Book of Allah and the hadith of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him).
