The Sunnah is of two kinds: a good Sunnah and an evil Sunnah.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : So the Sunnah is of two kinds: a good Sunnah and an evil Sunnah. Whoever revives a good Sunnah will have its reward and the reward of everyone who acts upon it until the Day of Resurrection. And whoever revives an evil Sunnah will bear its sin and the sin of everyone who acts upon it until the Day of Resurrection.
Now we say something else after mentioning the first point, which is that the story does not mention anything that can be described as a religious innovation. All that is in the matter is that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) encouraged his Companions to give charity. We say something else: if we set aside the occasion of revelation, and many are those who limit their study of the Prophetic hadith to the abridged books of hadith, and very few of them return to the mother books and the original sources to ascertain the occasions of transmission, like this hadith, we now set aside the occasion of the hadith’s transmission and stand by its wording.
