The Shaykh’s mention of the disagreement that occurred among the Muslim Brotherhood regarding the reception of the book *Tammam al-Mannah fi al-Ta'liq 'ala Fiqh al-Sunnah*.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : I find that this book, which I believe should have been part of the Muslim Brotherhood’s methodology, was imposed on every member as they impose the writings of Hasan al-Banna (may Allah have mercy on him) on them. Yet I find the situation to be the opposite. For example, in Damascus, some groups study this book, while other groups reject it and refuse it on the grounds of that phrase I wish the earthworms would destroy; the woodworms eat it away; the claim that this man is a Wahhabi. More than that, in some regions in the north and south of Syria, the entire group, from its leader to its followers, rejects this book on the same weak grounds mentioned. Yes?

The questioner : The north and south?

The Shaykh : The south, the north, excuse me, I made a mistake, the northeast.

The questioner: Yes.

The Shaykh: Yes.
They reject this book categorically on the same weak grounds mentioned earlier. Why is there this discord? And how can I conceive of the Muslim Brotherhood as loving and compassionate, when among them are Salafis who, in the existing writings, do not accept any alternative in jurisprudence to the book *Fiqh al-Sunnah* by Sayyid Sabiq, while others continue to read books that I believe can be described as: "Time has eaten them and drunk them"; *Maraqi al-Falah* in Hanafi jurisprudence, *al-Bajuri*; *Hashiyat al-Bajuri* in the Shafi'i school, and in both of these books, as I hinted to you in the previous meeting, are words that make one’s forehead sweat just to mention them, and I am not addressing them now, and "the free man is satisfied with a hint," as they say.
How can members of the Muslim Brotherhood actually be united, as the call was established for that purpose, when there is such profound discord among them, in the same town, in the same region, in Syria, where the methodology differs completely in Islamic jurisprudential culture?
So here I found brothers in the Salafi call, because of this movement that we call for, and we do not oppose anyone politically; because for each one, as He (Glorified and Exalted is He) said:
For each [religious following] is a direction toward which it faces. So race to [all that is] good. وَلِكُلٍّ وِجْهَةٌ هُوَ مُوَلِّيهَا فَاسْتَبِقُوا الْخَيْرَاتِ
