Chapter on Patience in the Face of Harm, Explanation of the Hadith of Abu Musa

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : And he cited beneath it a hadith with a sound chain of narration from Abu Musa from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), who said:
No one - nothing - is more patient in enduring an injury which he hears than Allah Almighty
Al-Adab Al-Mufrad 389
. So Allah, who created people, hears the harm from people, and they are His servants, created for Him; despite that, He is patient with them; that is: for this reason, the Muslim is encouraged that if his Lord, who created people, is harmed by them, He is patient with their harm, as the hadith will explain; so you, O Muslim, are more deserving of patience when harm befalls you. What is this harm that our Lord - Mighty and Majestic - hears, and then He is patient with it with a patience that no one in the worlds can match? He said in the completion of the hadith:
Indeed, they call for Him a son - or they claim for Him a son -, and indeed He heals them and provides for them
.
Indeed, they accuse Allah - Mighty and Majestic - of the greatest accusation, that He has a partner, that He has a son; and despite that, He provides them with the good things of this world, and when they fall ill, He heals them. How is this, when they curse Him and claim for Him a son and a partner? That is from the patience of Allah - Blessed and Exalted is He - with His servants; for that reason, he (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
No thing, no one is more patient with harm than Allah - Mighty and Majestic - hearing it from anyone; that is because they claim for Him a son, and indeed He heals them and provides for them
.
One might say: This is Allah, Allah - Mighty and Majestic - possesses all attributes of perfection; so He is able to be patient with this patience, of which there is no equivalent in this world; so how can we be able to imitate Him?
We say: It is not possible for a human being, no matter how high he rises, for his attribute to become similar to any of the attributes of Allah - Mighty and Majestic -; but this is in the category of approximation; because Allah says:
There is nothing like unto Him, and He is the Hearing, the Seeing.
[Ash-Shuraa 42:11]
, and although He said regarding Himself
and He is the Hearing, the Seeing.
[Ash-Shuraa 42:11]
, when He mentioned Adam (peace be upon him), He said:
and We made him hearing and seeing.
[Al-Insan 76:2]
, but the hearing of Adam and his descendants is not like the hearing of Allah - Mighty and Majestic - and His sight, naturally; but there is a type of participation in the wording. So if a human being cannot follow Allah - Mighty and Majestic - in the fullness of the attribute, then he should approximate the attribution of something of the attribute of patience with which Allah - Blessed and Exalted is He - is described; so among His attributes, He is the Patient, the Appreciative.
