Explanation of the hadith of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh: Indeed, all praise is due to Allah; we praise Him, seek His help, and seek His forgiveness. We seek refuge in Allah from the evil of our own souls and from the badness of our deeds. Whom Allah guides, none can mislead, and whom He leaves to mislead, none can guide. And I bear witness that there is no deity but Allah alone, with no partner, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His slave and His Messenger,
O you who have believed, fear Allah as He should be feared and do not die except as Muslims [in submission to Him].
[Ali 'Imran 3:102]
,
O mankind, fear your Lord, who created you from one soul and created from it its mate and dispersed from both of them many men and women. And fear Allah, through whom you ask one another, and the wombs. Indeed Allah is ever, over you, an Observer.
[An-Nisa 4:1]
,
(70) O you who have believed, fear Allah and speak words of appropriate justice. (71) He will [then] amend for you your deeds and forgive you your sins. And whoever obeys Allah and His Messenger has certainly attained a great attainment.
[Al-Ahzab 33:70-71]
. As for what follows:
Indeed, the best of speech is the speech of Allah, and the best of guidance is the guidance of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him and his family), and the worst of matters are their innovations, and every innovation is a religious innovation, and every religious innovation is misguidance, and every misguidance is in the Fire.
And from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said:
The parable of the son of Adam and his wealth, his family, and his deeds is like a man who has three brothers or three companions. One of them said: I am with you during your life, but when you die, I am not from you and you are not from me. That is his wealth. The other said: I am with you, but when you reach that tree, I am not from you and you are not from me. The other said: I am with you in life and in death
It was narrated by al-Bazzar, and its narrators are narrators of authentic collections.
These authentic hadiths are, in terms of meaning and subject matter, like the last hadith with which our previous lesson ended, the hadith of Anas; when the Messenger (peace be upon him) said:
Three things follow the deceased: his family, his wealth, and his deeds. Two return and one remains; his family and his wealth return, and his deeds remain
Al-Mustadrak lil-Hakim 1:230
.
We have spoken about this hadith to the extent possible in our previous lesson; so we have no need to repeat the discussion of these two hadiths as long as they revolve around what the previous hadith of Anas revolved around. However, I see that it is necessary to speak very briefly about what these hadiths revolve around and focus on. We see that they focus the speech on deeds, and that it is what remains and enters the grave with its owner, and that everything else of wealth, servants, attendants, and kin does not benefit him in any way. Rather, they all return, and his wealth becomes an inheritance for his heirs. As for his relatives and kin, they do not avail him anything from Allah. So, the hadith, or rather it means the hadith, directs the Muslims to focus on the deed that will remain with them forever, and not to focus on wealth and status, which are among the causes of... family, servants, and attendants.
Since this is the case with this wealth, it is as if the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) wants, as the author indicates when he cites these hadiths in the book of asceticism from the world, to indicate that since wealth will not remain, and only the deed remains; then you should do good deeds. And doing good deeds includes righteous wealth; because if he gathers wealth and it is righteous, and he spends it - also - in the prescribed ways, as we also mentioned in the previous lesson; then this is from righteous deeds and from the legacies that immortalize him after his death in the world. So the effects of this righteous deed come to him, especially if its cause is righteous wealth; so the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) encourages in these three hadiths that one of us should do good deeds; whether it is worship, or prayer, or gathering wealth, or the like...
