Explanation of the hadith of Anas ibn Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) regarding the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), who said: (Three things follow the deceased

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : The hadith following the previous one—which is his saying (peace be upon him):
Abu Huraira reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: O Allah, make the provision of Muhammad's family sufficient just to sustain life.
Sahih Muslim 1055
—the one after that is very weak, but the one after that is an authentic hadith; it is his saying: And from Anas ibn Malik (may Allah be pleased with him), from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family), who said:
Three things follow the deceased
. Look at this depiction of the value of wealth in this life. He (peace be upon him) said:
Three things follow the deceased: his family, his wealth, and his deeds. Two return and one remains; his family and his wealth return, and his deeds remain
Al-Mustadrak lil-Hakim 1:230
. So, since you will inevitably have to part with it and leave it behind you, gaining nothing from it, be light, light of burden; because this wealth is something you will inevitably have to leave behind, and increase in righteous deeds. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Three things follow the deceased: his family and his wealth
Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah 34:538
.
The word "wealth" may be confusing to some: how does it follow him? The family, of course, will come out to follow him as his mourners, so how does the wealth follow him?
It was previously interpreted as what was the reality at the time, and we can interpret it today with a new reality, whether it conforms to the Shari'ah or contradicts it; because it is a reality in any case. The wealth here that follows the deceased was interpreted as slaves, servants, and slaves, and this is still observed regarding some kings who still enslave some people. So, based on what the reality was at that time, he (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
His family and his wealth follow him
.
