A Reminder of a Great Manner of the Manners of Islam, Which Is the Manner of Gathering in the Assemblies of Knowledge and Not Separating.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : As for what follows: The best of speech is the speech of Allah, and the best of guidance is the guidance of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him and his family), and the worst of matters are their innovations, and every innovation is a religious innovation, and every religious innovation is misguidance, and every misguidance is in the Fire.
It seems that it is necessary to remind people from time to time of some of the recommended practices and Islamic manners that have become unknown in terms of knowledge and abandoned in terms of practice. We have mentioned on more than one occasion, on an occasion like this session, that the assemblies of knowledge have manners. Among these is that it is not permissible to separate in the assemblies of knowledge; that we sit however it happens or however it pleases one of us. This is not of the manners of knowledge in any way whatsoever. Those are the assemblies of cafes and clubs, where whoever comes comes to those assemblies either to relax themselves, they claim, or for amusement or the like; so he is free to sit wherever he wishes and however he wishes. But the assembly of knowledge has its manners. I have mentioned to you more than once the hadith of Abu Thalhah al-Khushni (may Allah be pleased with him), in which he says that when they traveled with the Messenger of Allah (may the prayers and peace of Allah be upon him) and they stopped at a place, they would separate in the valleys and gorges. This separation is suggested by self-interest and personal benefit; where each person among them chooses the suitable place for him, which has a dense shade, for example. So they separated as was their custom. When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) saw them, he said to them:
Your dispersal is only from the work of Satan إنما تفرُّقكم هذا من عمل الشيطان
As-Sunan al-Kubra lil-Nasa'i 65:348
; indeed, your separation in the valleys and gorges is from the work of Satan. Abu Thalhah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "So after that, when we stopped at a place, we would gather in it, until if we sat on a carpet, it would have been enough for us." The most deserving of assemblies to maintain such a manner of gathering is knowledge; the assemblies of knowledge. And I do not want to prolong this, because the portion I allocated for this lesson, which I began resuming after leaving it for a long period out of necessity, is only half an hour for the lesson of encouraging good; therefore, I do not want to prolong the explanation of the secret and wisdom of this gathering which this authentic hadith suggests to us. But I will summarize the saying and say...
