The Shaykh : The Second Chapter: Prioritizing Analogical Reasoning and Other Matters over the Hadith:
O scholars, rejecting an authentic hadith by means of analogical reasoning or any of the other principles previously mentioned, such as rejecting it by the practice of the people of Madinah which contradicts it, is a clear contradiction of those preceding verses and hadiths that mandate returning to the Book and the Sunnah in cases of disagreement and dispute. It is certain among the people of knowledge that rejecting a hadith in the manner of the principles we have mentioned is not—praise be to Allah—something upon which all the scholars agreed. Rather, the majority of scholars contradict those principles and prioritize the authentic hadith over them, following the Book and the Sunnah. How could it be otherwise? It is the duty of those who act upon the hadith, even if they suspect consensus on the contrary or are unaware of who acted upon it.
