Mentioning what a caller to Islam should do when he intends to advise a group of people.

The Shaykh : And after that, I say: The custom of preachers and counselors is, in most cases—if not always and forever—that they improvise a sermon or a lesson from which the people present benefit. We may follow this path in many cases, but we see, especially when we come to a town we have not visited before, that it is better for the discussion to revolve around issues chosen by the people of the town, based on the prevailing proverb: "The people of Makkah know its valleys best," and "The owner of the house knows best what is in it."
Therefore, we see it wise for the discussion to proceed around the questions or problems that come to the minds of the people of the town, or that are in their lives and they ask about, so that they may clarify the ruling of Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He) in them. And the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) established, following and clarifying His saying (Blessed and Exalted is He):
So ask the people of the message if you do not know. فَاسْأَلُوا أَهْلَ الذِّكْرِ إِنْ كُنْتُمْ لَا تَعْلَمُونَ
[An-Nahl 16:43]
; He established for the Muslims that they should ask about matters of their religion in the hadith narrated by Abu Dawud in his "Sunan" and others from Jabir ibn 'Abd Allah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent out a detachment, and one of its members was wounded, then he became sexually aroused, so he asked: Do they find a dispensation for him not to take a bath and to perform dry ablution? They said: No, you must take a bath. The man took a bath, so he died because he was wounded, and we all know what the result of wounds is when water hits them, so that Companion died because of that unjust fatwa. When the news of him reached the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), he said:
They killed him, may Allah kill them! Did they not ask when they were ignorant? Indeed, the cure for ignorance is asking. قتلوه قاتلهم الله !! ألا سألوا حين جهلوا ؟! فإنما شفاء العيِّ السؤال
,
They killed him, may Allah kill them! قتلوه قاتلهم الله !!
; because they hastened and issued a fatwa to him that he had no dispensation for dry ablution, whereas it was obligatory for them to grant him a dispensation for dry ablution; and therefore he (peace be upon him) said in the completion of the hadith in some narrations:
It is sufficient for him to perform dry ablution with one strike of his hands on the ground. إنما يكفيه أن يتيمَّم ضربة بكفَّيه على الأرض
.
So we follow the example of the verse and the hadith and say: Ask about what concerns you, for what you are more aware of than others is better, in my view, than for us to open a speech on any of the important topics.
Please proceed.
