Mentioning how the Companions transmitted the hadith to those who came after them.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : Let us now return with you to the first era, the era of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), to see how the Companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) transmitted the reports of the Messenger to those who came after them; whether they were contemporaries of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) but did not have the honor of his companionship, such as the people of Yemen who were in Yemen during the time of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and it was not possible for them to travel to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), so he sent Mu'adh to them, and he sent 'Ali to them, and he sent Abu Musa al-Ash'ari to them at different times.
What did he say to Mu'adh ibn Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him) when he sent him as a caller to Islam?
He said, as it came in the "Sahihayn" — and perhaps the audience present, if Allah wills, remembers this hadith — he said to him (peace and blessings be upon him):
Let the first thing you call them to be the testimony that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, and if they respond to you, then command them to pray لِيكُنْ أوَّلَ ما تدعوهم إليه شهادة أن لا إله إلا الله وأن محمدًا رسول الله ، فإذا هم أجابوك فمُرْهم بالصلاة
to the end of the hadith.
The point is: Prayer is one of the rulings, and yet before that, his command (peace be upon him) to Mu'adh was to call them to tawhid (the oneness of Allah). Tawhid is the foundation of Islam, and it is the root of every belief in Islam. Do you see, Mu'adh ibn Jabal, when he conveyed this command from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him); is this report a mass-transmitted report or a report with a limited chain? No person of sense and intellect doubts that it is a report with a limited chain, a singular report. Do you see, did the proof of Allah, then the proof of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), become established against the people of Yemen to whom Mu'adh was sent with the call to tawhid, or did it not become established? Those who introduced the philosophy that "a report with a limited chain does not establish a belief"; the meaning of their words is: The proof of Allah and His Messenger does not become established by the Messenger sending his companion Mu'adh ibn Jabal alone, rather he had to send the number required for mass transmission.
And for that reason, I said to some of them once, from those who claim that a report with a limited chain is not taken for belief: One of you — I am addressing those who do not argue with a report with a limited chain — one of you may go to a land of disbelief to call them to Islam, and among what is certain is that he will first call them to belief, and the first belief in Islam is the testimony that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah. But this group that I am referring to, their leader has placed a chapter in his book, naming this chapter "The Path of Faith," and this is the path they follow in calling, calling Muslims in the lands of Islam, and calling disbelievers in the lands of disbelief and tyranny.
I said: If one of you goes to establish for them the Path of Faith, and in this path, at its end, comes the statement that a report with a limited chain does not establish a belief, and the people are gathered listening to lecture after lecture until he finishes explaining the Path of Faith, and among it is that a report with a limited chain does not establish a belief; then one of those who followed the man's lectures stood up and said to him: O Professor, O Honorable Shaykh, you are now teaching us the belief of Islam, and you mention among what you mentioned that belief is not established by a report with a limited chain. You are one of these Muslims whom you came from to introduce us to the belief of Islam; according to your methodology that you taught us, the proof of Allah does not become established against us; because you are a single individual, so you must return to your land and bring the number required for mass transmission to testify with you that this is Islam.
Is this Islam?! And where are you from the hadith of the Messenger (peace be upon him) that we mentioned earlier, when he sent Mu'adh, and sent 'Ali, and sent Abu Musa as individuals to teach people Islam?!
So from here you understand that this belief is foreign to Islam and is not known to the righteous Salaf; the division of hadith into mass-transmitted and reports with a limited chains; it is sufficient for you that the hadith reaches you from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) as authentic by the testimony of the scholars of authentication, and not by the testimony of corrupted minds, minds that have not been purified by the understanding of the Book and the Sunnah together; therefore, the Qur'an must be interpreted by the Sunnah of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), even if it is not mass-transmitted but rather a report with a limited chain.
