The Shaykh : What did he say to Mu'adh ibn Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him) when he sent him as a caller to Islam? As it came in the two Sahihs, and perhaps the audience present, if Allah wills, remembers this hadith. He said to him (peace and blessings be upon him): to the end of the hadith. The point is that prayer is one of the rulings, and yet before that, his command (peace and blessings be upon him) to Mu'adh was to call them to the oneness of Allah. The oneness of Allah is the foundation of Islam and the root of every belief in Islam. Do you see that when Mu'adh ibn Jabal conveyed this command from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family), is this report a mass-transmitted report or a report with a limited chain? No one with sense and intellect doubts that it is a report with a limited chain, a singular report. Do you see that the proof of Allah and the proof of His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) was established against the people of Yemen to whom Mu'adh was sent with the call to the oneness of Allah, or was it not established? Those who introduced the philosophy that a report with a limited chain does not establish a belief—meaning of their words is that the proof of Allah and His Messenger is not established by the sending of the Messenger to his companion Mu'adh ibn Jabal alone; rather, he had to send the number required for mass transmission. Therefore, I once said to some of them, those who claim that a report with a limited chain is not used to establish belief: Perhaps one of you goes to address those who do not argue with reports with a limited chain. Perhaps one of you goes to a land of disbelief to call them to Islam, and it is certain that the first thing he will call them to is belief, and the first belief in Islam is the testimony that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah. But this group I referred to, their leader has placed a chapter in his book, naming this chapter "The Path of Faith," and this is the path they follow in their calling, the calling of Muslims in the lands of Islam and the calling of disbelievers in the lands of disbelief and tyranny. I said: If one of you goes to establish upon them the Path of Faith, and in this path, at its end, comes the statement that a report with a limited chain does not establish a belief, and the people were gathered listening to lecture after lecture until he finished explaining the Path of Faith, and among it was that a report with a limited chain does not establish a belief, one of those who followed the man's lectures stood up and said to him: O Professor, O esteemed Shaykh, you are now teaching us the belief of Islam, and you mentioned in what you mentioned that belief is not established by a report with a limited chain. So you are one of those Muslims from whom you came to teach us the belief of Islam. According to your methodology that you taught us, the proof of Allah is not established against us because you are a single individual. So you must return to your land and bring the number required for mass transmission to testify with you that this is Islam. Is this Islam? And where are you from the hadith of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) that we mentioned just now, when he sent Mu'adh, and sent Ali, and sent Abu Musa, as individuals to teach people Islam? From this, you understand that this belief is foreign to Islam and is not known to the righteous Salaf. Dividing the hadith into mass-transmitted and reports with a limited chain—according to you, it is sufficient for the hadith to reach you from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) as authentic by the testimony of the scholars of authentication, and not by the testimony of the diseased minds, the minds that have not been purified by the understanding of the Book and the Sunnah together. Thus, it is obligatory to interpret the Qur'an with the Sunnah of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), even if it is not mass-transmitted but rather a report with a limited chain.
