Reminder of his saying (peace and blessings be upon him): “Fight the mushrikin with your wealth, your souls, and your tongues.”

The Shaykh : Then I remind you—and the reminder benefits the believers—of the hadith of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) which says: . So jihad is divided into three categories, after the two categories that are known to you all. The first category is an individual obligation, and the other category is a collective obligation; if some people fulfill it, it drops off the rest. But this jihad, whether it is from the first category, an individual obligation, or from the other category, a collective obligation, is not limited to jihad with wealth only, nor with the soul only, which is the most precious thing for a person, nor with the tongue only, which is the cheapest thing. But the Messenger (peace be upon him), with his profound wisdom in teaching the ummah, says: ; he draws their attention to the obligation of jihad by every means. However, one individual may not be able—whether in the individual obligation or the collective obligation—one individual may not be able to combine these types of jihad with the soul, with wealth, and with the tongue. Therefore, each person takes his share from this authentic hadith and fights: if he is able to fight with his soul, then with his soul, and the virtue of jihad is known to you all—if Allah wills. And if he is not able to fight with his soul, let him fight with his wealth. If he is a poor person with nothing, no wealth, then at least he should fight with his tongue. Jihad with the tongue has many forms, and among them is encouraging the Muslims to jihad in the path of Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He), especially when the cause for jihad arises, as is currently observed in Afghanistan and then in Eritrea.
