What is the meaning of the saying of Allah the Exalted: "And those who strive for Us, We will surely guide them to Our paths"?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
His EminenceThe Shaykh : What is the meaning of the saying of Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He):
And those who strive for Us - We will surely guide them وَالَّذِينَ جَاهَدُوا فِينَا لَنَهْدِيَنَّهُمْ
[Al-'Ankabut 29:69]
Is the striving in fighting, or is the student of knowledge also a striver?

The Shaykh : It appears that the verse is broader and more general. Those who strive for Allah are like His saying:
And strive for Allah with the striving due to Him وَجَاهِدُوا فِي اللَّهِ حَقَّ جِهَادِهِ
[Al-Hajj 22:78]
The meaning is that one strives against oneself to perform the deeds that Allah has commanded, even if one is not a student of knowledge. That is to say, if one strives against oneself to perform acts of worship, he falls under the verse.
