Reminding the Shaykh of the saying of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him): “Fight the polytheists with your wealth, your lives, and your tongues.”

The Shaykh : Then I remind you, for the reminder benefits the believers, of the hadith of the Messenger (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) in which he says: Jihad is divided into three categories, in addition to the two categories that are well known to you all: the first is an individual obligation, and the other is a collective obligation, which is lifted from the rest if some people fulfill it. However, this jihad, whether it is of the first category, an individual obligation, or the other, a collective obligation, is not limited to jihad with wealth alone, nor with the self alone, which is the most precious thing to a person, nor with the tongue alone, which is the least costly. But the Messenger (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him), in his profound wisdom in teaching the Ummah, says: He draws their attention to the obligation of jihad by every means. However, one individual may not be able, whether in the case of an individual obligation or a collective obligation, to combine these types of jihad with the self, with wealth, and with the tongue. Therefore, each person takes his share from this authentic hadith: he fights with his self if he is able to fight with his self, and the virtue of jihad is well known to you all, if Allah wills.
And if he is not able to fight with his self, let him fight with his wealth. If he is poor and destitute, having no wealth, then at the very least he should fight with his tongue. Fighting with the tongue has many forms, among which is encouraging Muslims to fight in the cause of Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He), especially when the cause for jihad arises, as is currently observed in Afghanistan and then in Eritrea.
