Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Eid Abbasi : It is reported in the Sunnah that Allah (Mighty and Majestic) will make the thigh of the son of Adam testify against his lie on the Day of Reckoning; so will a man be questioned about a sin from which he repented, and if he is questioned, will he answer in the negative based on his repentance, or in the affirmative, exposing himself to punishment?
There is a related question: Will Allah forgive a repeated sin that the heart of its doer denies? And does the word “ignorance” in His saying (the Exalted):[An-Nisa 4:17], mean lack of intention or lack of control over the senses?
The Shaykh : This is a separate question...
Eid Abbasi : Yes, so let us start with the first one.
The Shaykh : What was the first question?
Eid Abbasi : The testimony of the human thigh against a sin from which he repented.
The Shaykh : Whoever repents, Allah turns to him in mercy. The one who committed a sin and then repented to Allah (Mighty and Majestic) with sincere repentance; this sin is erased. In fact, it is a favor from his Lord that the matter is more merciful than that; because when the sinner repents, not only is his disobedience erased, but good deeds are placed in its stead. Allah (Mighty and Majestic), as He said:[Al-Furqan 25:70]. This verse is among the verses of glad tidings; it gathered a great deal of the favor of Allah (Mighty and Majestic) to the extent that the minds of some of the exegetes were not broad enough to accept this divine favor, so they said in their interpretation of this verse: [Al-Furqan 25:70]; meaning: after he repented from the sin, he does good, and this good is the good deeds. No, the Sunnah came to clarify, and despite these restricters who limit the mercy of Allah (Mighty and Majestic), to say: He replaces their evil deeds with good deeds in reality; meaning: if a person did ninety evil deeds and repented from them, ninety good deeds are written for him, and so on around you. But do not be deceived; it does not mean that the repentant sinner is better than the obedient, patient one who walks on the path and the straight road.
There is a subtle point here; and it is this: the one who abounded in sins and repented, and Allah turned to him in mercy and erased his evil deeds, and placed those good deeds in their stead as we explained, but the believing, obedient, patient one who proceeds in his obedience to Allah (Mighty and Majestic), for every good deed he does, ten are written for him in place of the good deed, a hundred in place of it, seven hundredfold, or many times over, and Allah multiplies for whom He wills. And if Allah (Mighty and Majestic) has manifested His favor upon the disobedient among His servants by turning their evil deeds from which they repented into good deeds, then Allah (Mighty and Majestic) is more generous than that regarding the obedient among His servants; so He multiplies their good deeds. Therefore, however the evil deeds of the disobedient are replaced with good deeds, it is a good deed in place of an evil deed, whereas if he was obedient, he would find on the Day of Resurrection a store of good deeds by which he rises in Paradise to the high ranks.
So the point is that repentance erases the debt, so the Muslim is not questioned on that Day about the sin from which he repented, otherwise the matter would require questioning all the disbelievers who were guided and embraced Islam, so this matter is easy, clear, and evident, and praise be to Allah.
What? Repeat the second question.
Eid Abbasi : That if he is questioned on the Day of Resurrection, he will find...?
The Shaykh : He is not questioned.
There is a related question: Will Allah forgive a repeated sin that the heart of its doer denies? And does the word “ignorance” in His saying (the Exalted):
for those who do wrong in ignorance
