What is the authenticity of the report attributed to Malik

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : This report is mentioned in the book *Al-I'tisam* by al-Shatibi, but I have not come across its chain of narration, nor do I know whether it is authentic or weak. However, look at his words; they are very beautiful. He says: "Whoever innovates in Islam an innovation that he considers good has claimed that Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) betrayed the message. Whoever innovates in Islam an innovation that he considers good has claimed that Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) betrayed the message. Read the words of Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He):
This day I have perfected for you your religion and completed My favor upon you and have approved for you Islam as religion.
[Al-Ma'idah 5:3]
He said: 'What was not a religion at that time will not be a religion today.' He said: 'And the end of this Ummah will not be set right except by what set right its beginning.' So by what was the beginning of this Ummah set right? By knowledge or by ignorance?

The questioner : By knowledge.

The Shaykh : By knowledge. And among knowledge is knowing what is authentic and what is weak, especially what concerns the Shari'ah, Islam, and the Messenger of Islam (peace and blessings be upon him). If you know that the report is weak, explaining that is more beneficial. And if you fear that this report will not yield fruit when you mention that its chain is weak, you clarify it to them. O our brothers, we narrate this report even though the chain through which it reached us is weak, but we look at this beautiful meaning. Its meaning is beautiful, it conforms to the Shari'ah, it moves the souls, it stirs people up, it means it spreads good, and so on. So the prohibition you might fear from explaining it will be removed, if Allah wills.
