Exegesis of the saying of Allah the Exalted: (And to Us belongs the Hereafter and the First)
Allah the Exalted said: [Al-Layl: 13] Meaning: To Us belongs the Hereafter and the First. The First precedes the Hereafter in time, but in this verse He placed it after the Hereafter. Why?We say for two benefits: The first benefit is conceptual, and the second benefit is linguistic.
As for the conceptual benefit: Because the Hereafter is more important than this world, and because the dominion of Allah the Exalted is fully manifested in the Hereafter. In this world, there are leaders, kings, and princes who possess the dominion that Allah the Mighty and Majestic has granted them,But in the Hereafter, no one has dominion: [Ghafir: 16] Therefore, the mention of the Hereafter was placed first for the sake of this conceptual benefit.
As for the linguistic benefit: It takes into account the rhymes, meaning: the ends of all the verses are the letter alif: [Al-Layl: 1-2] If He had said: To Us belongs the First and the Hereafter, the beginnings of the verses would have differed,Therefore He said: [Al-Layl: 13] .
Here it becomes clear that Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He, said: [Al-Layl: 12-13] So what is the difference? The difference is that as for guidance, Allah the Exalted committed to explaining and clarifying it for creation, whereas dominion belongs to Allah, the dominion of the Hereafter and the First,And for this he said: [Al-Layl: 13] .
Allah the Exalted said:
And indeed, to Us belongs the Hereafter and the first [life].
وَإِنَّ لَنَا لَلآخِرَةَ وَالأُولَىAs for the conceptual benefit: Because the Hereafter is more important than this world, and because the dominion of Allah the Exalted is fully manifested in the Hereafter. In this world, there are leaders, kings, and princes who possess the dominion that Allah the Mighty and Majestic has granted them,But in the Hereafter, no one has dominion:
To whom belongs [all] sovereignty this Day? To Allah, the One, the Prevailing.
لِمَنِ الْمُلْكُ الْيَوْمَ لِلَّهِ الْوَاحِدِ الْقَهَّارِAs for the linguistic benefit: It takes into account the rhymes, meaning: the ends of all the verses are the letter alif:
(1) By the night when it covers (2) And [by] the day when it appears
وَاللَّيْلِ إِذَا يَغْشَى * وَالنَّهَارِ إِذَا تَجَلَّىAnd indeed, to Us belongs the Hereafter and the first [life].
وَإِنَّ لَنَا لَلآخِرَةَ وَالأُولَىHere it becomes clear that Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He, said:
