Exegesis of the saying of Allah the Exalted: (And from the evil of the darkening night as it closes in)]
Allah the Exalted said: [Surat al-Falaq: 3] The darkening night: It was said that it is the night,And it was said: It was said that it is the moon,And the correct view is: It was said that it is general for both of them,As for it being the night, that is because Allah the Exalted said: [Surat al-Isra: 78] And as we all know, insects and wild beasts are numerous in the night,Therefore, he sought refuge from the evil of the darkening night, meaning: the night. As for the moon, it was reported in a hadith that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) showed the moon to 'A'ishah and said: (This is the darkening night) And it was called the darkening night because its dominion is in the night,And his statement:[Al-Falaq 113:3] It is conjoined to (from the evil of what He created) in the manner of conjoining the specific to the general; because the darkening night is among the creations of Allah (Mighty and Majestic),And his statement: Meaning: when it enters. So the night, when it enters into its darkness, is the darkening night, and likewise the moon, when it shines with its light, is the darkening night, and that does not occur except in the night.
