Exegesis of Surat al-Falaq and what is derived from its verses.
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : As for the two surahs that follow it, they are: [Al-Falaq 113:1] and [An-Nas 114:1].
Allah (Mighty and Majestic) says:[Al-Falaq 113:1] And the Lord of the dawn is Allah.
Al-Falaq means the dawn, and it is permissible to interpret it more broadly, that al-Falaq is everything that Allah the Exalted splits open, such as the dawn, the pips, and the seeds, as He the Exalted said:[Al-An'am 6:95], and He said: .
[Al-Falaq 113:2] So if you say: [Al-Falaq 113:2], the first thing included in it is your self, as came in the Khutbat al-Hajah (Sermon of Necessity): Sunan Ibn Majah 1893Sahih (Darussalam) And His saying: [Al-Falaq 113:2] includes the devils of mankind and jinn, insects, and others [Al-Falaq 113:2].
[Al-Falaq 113:3] Al-Ghasiq: It has been said that it is the night, and it has been said that it is the moon, and the correct view is that it is general for both. As for it being the night, it is because Allah the Exalted said: [Al-Isra 17:78], and as we all know that insects and wild beasts are more numerous in the night, therefore he sought refuge from the evil of al-Ghasiq, meaning: the night. As for the moon, it came in a hadith from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) showed Aisha the moon and said: , and it was al-Ghasiq because its dominance is in the night.
And His saying:[Al-Falaq 113:3] is attached to [Al-Falaq 113:2] in the manner of attaching the specific to the general, because al-Ghasiq is among the creations of Allah (Mighty and Majestic). And His saying: means: when it enters. So when the night enters into its darkness, it is al-Ghasiq, and likewise the moon when it shines with its light, it is al-Ghasiq, and that does not happen except in the night.
[Al-Falaq 113:4-5] The women who blow on knots: They are the sorcerers. They tie ropes and other things, and they blow with a recitation of a cryptic text containing the names of the devils on these knots, on every knot. They tie, then blow, they tie, then blow, they tie, then blow, and with her foul self she intends a specific person, so this sorcery affects the one who is bewitched.
And Allah mentioned the women who blow on knots without mentioning the men who blow on knots, because the majority of those who use this type of sorcery are women, so He said:[Al-Falaq 113:4] It is also possible to say that means: the souls that blow, which includes men and women.
[Al-Falaq 113:5] The envier: He is the one who dislikes Allah's blessing upon you. You find him distressed when Allah blesses this person with wealth, status, knowledge, or otherwise, so he envies him.
But enviers are of two types: One type: He envies and dislikes in his heart Allah's blessing upon others, but he does not do anything to the one he envies. You find him worried and sad about Allah's blessings upon others, but he does not transgress against his owner. The evil and calamity are upon the envier when he envies, for this reason He said:.
And among the envy of the envier is the evil eye that strikes the one who is envied. This man—may Allah grant us safety—has a dislike for Allah's blessings upon others, so when he feels that Allah has blessed so-and-so with a blessing, a meaning comes out of his foul self that we cannot describe, because it is unknown, so he strikes with the evil eye the one over whom he has dominance. Sometimes he dies, sometimes he gets sick, sometimes he goes mad. Even the envier has dominance over iron and stops its function. Perhaps he strikes a car with the evil eye and it breaks or malfunctions. Perhaps he strikes the raising of water or the plowing of the land. The important thing is that the evil eye is a reality that strikes by the permission of Allah (Mighty and Majestic).
Allah (Mighty and Majestic) mentioned: Al-Ghasiq when it covers, the women who blow on knots, the envier when he envies, because all the calamity in these three states is hidden. The night is a cover and a veil, He the Exalted said:[Ash-Shams 91:4], evil lurks in it and is not known.
The women who blow on knots are also like that, so sorcery is hidden and not known.
The envier when he envies, the one who casts the evil eye is also hidden. The evil eye comes from a person you think is one of the people you love most, and you are one of the people he loves most, and yet he strikes you with the evil eye. For this reason, Allah specified these three matters: Al-Ghasiq when it covers, the women who blow on knots, and the envier when he envies, otherwise they are included in His saying:[Al-Falaq 113:2].
So if someone asks: What is the way to get rid of these three evils?
We said: The way to get rid of them is for a person to attach his heart to his Lord, entrust his affairs to Him, and realize reliance upon Allah, and use the prescribed adhkar (remembrances) with which he protects himself and preserves himself from the evil of these people. The reason the matter has increased among people in recent times regarding sorcerers, enviers, and the like, is except due to their heedlessness of Allah, their weakness in reliance upon Allah (Mighty and Majestic), and their little use of the prescribed adhkar with which they fortify themselves. Otherwise, we know that the prescribed adhkar are a fortress stronger than the barrier of Ya'juj and Ma'juj, but unfortunately many people do not know anything about these adhkar, and whoever knows may often be heedless, and whoever reads them, his heart is not present, and all of this is a deficiency. If only people used the adhkar as the Shari'ah brought them, they would be safe from many evils.
