Matters that must be observed when hiring a domestic worker

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Regarding employing a domestic worker in the home who has no mahram (relative one may not marry) and who is uncovering her face?

The domestic worker in the home, first: It is necessary that she have a mahram (relative one may not marry) with her. It is not permissible for a person to bring a domestic worker without a mahram (relative one may not marry), because this is a great fitnah (trial, discord or temptation).

Second: She must observe hijab (the covering prescribed for women) from the people of the house—the men—just as she observes hijab (the covering prescribed for women) from the people of the market, for there is no difference, and they are all non-mahram (relatives one may not marry) to her. The negligence of some people today is among the things by which people are afflicted. Indeed, some people are negligent about uncovering the face of the domestic worker, and some are also negligent about entering the house when no one is present except the domestic worker, so he is alone with her, whereas no man is alone with a woman except that the third of them is Shaytan (Satan), may Allah protect us from Him. The obligatory thing is to be cautious.

The obligatory thing, first: That we do not bring a domestic worker except for a pressing need (hajah); because without a pressing need (hajah), it is a waste of money, for she will ask you for a monthly salary. So if you are not in need of her, spending this salary is a waste of money.

Second: That she have a mahram (relative one may not marry) with her.
