Exegesis of the saying of Allah the Exalted: (And fear Allah)]

Then He, the Exalted, said:
And fear Allahوَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ
[Surah al-Hujurat: 1] This is a generalization following a specification; because advancing before Allah and His Messenger is contrary to taqwa, but He specified it and placed it first due to its importance,Then he said:
And fear Allahوَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ
[Surah al-Hujurat: 1] meaning: take protection from the punishment of Allah Mighty and Majestic, and this is not realized except if the person performs the commands and leaves the prohibitions, performing the commands to draw near to Allah the Exalted and out of love for His reward, and leaving the prohibitions out of fear of the punishment of Allah Mighty and Majestic.

And among the people is one who:
And when it is said to him, "Fear Allah," pride in the sin takes hold of him.وَإِذَا قِيلَ لَهُ اتَّقِ اللَّهَ أَخَذَتْهُ الْعِزَّةُ بِالإِثْمِ
[Surah al-Baqarah: 206] so he became arrogant in his soul, and he was arrogant in his soul and delved into the sin, and his neck veins swelled,And he says: Should it be said to one like me: Fear Allah?! And the poor man did not know that Allah addressed one who is nobler than him, and one who is more pious of Allah’s servants to Allah, so He commanded him to have taqwa,Allah the Exalted said:
O Prophet, fear Allah and do not obey the disbelievers and the hypocritesيَا أَيُّهَا النَّبِيُّ اتَّقِ اللَّهَ وَلا تُطِعِ الْكَافِرِينَ وَالْمُنَافِقِينَ
[Surah al-Ahzab: 1] And in the same surah He said:
and fear Allah," while you concealed within yourself that which Allah is to disclose. And you feared the people, while Allah has more right that you fear Him.وَاتَّقِ اللَّهَ وَتُخْفِي فِي نَفْسِكَ مَا اللَّهُ مُبْدِيهِ وَتَخْشَى النَّاسَ وَاللَّهُ أَحَقُّ أَنْ تَخْشَاهُ
[Surah al-Ahzab: 37] And who is there who does not deserve to be commanded to fear Allah the Exalted? Every one of us deserves to be commanded to fear Allah Mighty and Majestic,And the obligatory thing is that if it is said to him: Fear Allah, that he may increase in fear of Allah and review himself, and look at what he was commanded; because he was not commanded to fear so-and-so and so-and-so, but rather he was commanded to fear Allah Mighty and Majestic,And if we explain taqwa by that, meaning: By what we said, that it is taking protection from the punishment of Allah by performing His commands to draw near to Him and out of love for His reward, and leaving His prohibitions out of fear of His punishment, so if any person leaves an obligatory duty, he has not feared Allah, and his taqwa has decreased by the amount of his disobedience, so leaving the prayer -for example- causes taqwa to be lifted from him entirely; because the one who leaves the prayer is a disbeliever, as indicated by the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) and the sayings of the Companions,Until some of the scholars narrated the consensus of the Companions: That the one who leaves the prayer is a disbeliever with a disbelief that takes him out of the religion, and among them is the famous Tabi'i Abdullah ibn Shaqiq (may Allah have mercy on him),Where he said: [The Companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not consider any of the deeds, the leaving of which is disbelief, except the prayer] And Ishaq ibn Rahawayh also transmitted their consensus,And it is not authentic from any Companion that he said: That the one who leaves the prayer is in Paradise, or that he is a believer, or something similar to that, then the contradiction of taqwa differs; its contradiction may be disbelief, or it may be less than that. The fornicator has not feared Allah; because he committed fornication and thus contradicted a command and disobeyed Him. The thief has not feared Allah. The drinker of intoxicants has not feared Allah. The one who is undutiful to his parents has not feared Allah. The one who severs his family ties has not feared Allah, and there are many examples of this,So His saying, the Exalted:
And fear Allahوَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ
[Surah al-Hujurat: 1] A general, comprehensive word that includes the entire Shari'ah.
