Exegesis of the saying of Allah the Exalted: (Indeed, those who call out to you from beyond the rooms, most of them do not use reason)]

We begin this session by discussing the saying of Allah, Blessed and Exalted is He, in Surat al-Hujurat:
Indeed, those who call you, [O Muhammad], from behind the chambers - most of them do not use reason.إِنَّ الَّذِينَ يُنَادُونَكَ مِنْ وَرَاءِ الْحُجُرَاتِ أَكْثَرُهُمْ لا يَعْقِلُونَ
[al-Hujurat:4] This verse refers to a group of people who came to the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), and with them were some rough, uncouth people who did not assess matters with proper judgment. They began calling out to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) from behind the rooms of his wives, raising their voices in doing so, intending to make the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) come out to them,Allah says about these people:
most of them do not reason.أَكْثَرُهُمْ لا يَعْقِلُونَ
[al-Hujurat:4] meaning: they do not possess reason, and the intended meaning of reason here is the reason of sound judgment,Because reason is of two types: 1- The reason of sound judgment.
2- The reason of legal accountability.
As for the reason of sound judgment, its opposite is foolishness, and as for the reason of legal accountability, its opposite is insanity,So for example, if we say: It is a condition for the validity of wudu' (ablution) that the one performing it be of sound mind and discerning, so the intended meaning of reason here is the reason of legal accountability,And if we say: It is a condition for disposing of wealth that the one disposing of it be of sound mind, meaning: the reason of sound judgment that enables proper management,So the intended meaning of His saying here:
most of them do not reason.أَكْثَرُهُمْ لا يَعْقِلُونَ
[al-Hujurat:4] meaning: they do not possess the reason of sound judgment, because if they did not possess the reason of legal accountability, they would not be subject to blame or censure, for the insane person lacks reason and is not subject to blame or censure. And His saying:
most of them do not reason.أَكْثَرُهُمْ لا يَعْقِلُونَ
[al-Hujurat:4] implies from this: that some of them do use reason, and that he did not raise his voice, but rather he was well-mannered with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him).
