The ruling on a patient who is not expected to recover if he dies while owing fasts

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
There is a patient who fell ill during Ramadan, and after Ramadan he recovered slightly, and he saw that his condition had improved and became good enough to enable him to fast.So he said: I want to fast, because he owes days from Ramadan, so he fasted and tried for one day; but he found that he was exhausted. And he said: If Allah wills, when I am fully recovered I will complete the fasting, but Allah took him before the time he had set to make up the fasts. So does his guardian make up the fasts for him, or what? The Shaykh: And this illness has been with him for a long time.I mean: How long has he had it?The questioner: Yes, he had been suffering from diabetes, and then this happened.
May Allah reward you, he should feed one poor person for each day; because he left off fasting due to an illness that is not expected to end; because diabetes—may Allah protect us and you from it—generally does not go away, so he should feed one poor person for each day.
So in this year, our fasting was twenty-nine days, so he should feed twenty-nine poor people.

The questioner: He did not break his fast for the entire month of Ramadan; he only broke his fast for twelve days.

The Shaykh: It is according to the number of days, one poor person for each day; if he broke his fast for twelve days, he should feed twelve poor people on his behalf.
