The ruling on fasting on behalf of a sick person who has died

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
Finally, he asks and says: My father passed away in the last days of Ramadan, and he had days he did not fast because of his illness and old age. Is it permissible for me to fast those days on his behalf?

Answer:
If he died while ill, then it is not obligatory for you to fast on his behalf, nor is it prescribed; he is excused.
As for if he recovered and was healed but was negligent, then you fast on his behalf; based on the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
'A'isha (Allah be pleased with her) reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: If anyone dies in a state (that he had to complete) some fasts, his heir must fast on his behalf.من مات وعليه صيام صام عنه وليه
Sahih Muslim 1147
.
This is the best: you fast on his behalf. If you do not fast, you feed on his behalf one poor person for every day.
As for if he died in his illness or old age and was unable to fast, then you feed on his behalf if he was a very old man; you feed one poor person on his behalf for every day, half a sa' (a dry measure of about 3 kg) for every day.
As for if he died in his illness, then you owe neither feeding nor fasting. Yes.

The presenter: May Allah reward you with good.
