Ruling on uncovering the face of the deceased and raising the hands when making du'a for him
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Regarding the deceased, we have seen some people uncover his face, some cover his face, and some raise their hands over the graves making du'a for him. So, is there a difference of opinion?
As for uncovering the face of the deceased when he is placed in the grave, it is reported from some of the Salaf. So, if one does it, there is no harm, but he should uncover the side of the face that faces the ground, not the entire face.Meaning: He places his cheek on the ground.
And some of the Salaf did not uncover it, so the matter is broad in this regard.
As for making du'a for him after burial, it is established from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in what Abu Dawud narrated: that when he finished burying the deceased, he would stand over him and say: "Seek forgiveness for your brother and ask Allah to grant him steadfastness, for he is now being questioned." So, if one raises his hands when seeking forgiveness for him, there is no blame on him.And whoever does not raise his hands and says: O Allah, forgive him, O Allah, forgive him, O Allah, forgive him, O Allah, grant him steadfastness, O Allah, grant him steadfastness, O Allah, grant him steadfastness, and then he departs.
Because he said: Seek forgiveness for your brother, then ask for steadfastness for him only. And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), when he made du'a, would supplicate to Allah three times: he would seek forgiveness for the deceased three times, ask for steadfastness for him three times, and then depart.
