The most important thing: Sincerity of intention for Allah the Mighty and Majestic in seeking knowledge, such that he does not intend showing off in it, or that he be seen in his place, or that he be pointed to, or that he occupy the heads of the gatherings, and the like of that. His intention should be for Allah the Mighty and Majestic, so that he becomes a scholar who is beneficial to the Muslim community, guiding them to good.
Then he should choose from among the scholars one whom he sees as being closest to clarifying things for the student, most abundant in knowledge, and strongest in faith, according to his ability. The scholar from whom he studies will direct him to what he sees as being more complete and better, according to the situation.
