Exegesis of the saying of Allah the Exalted: (Nay! Do not obey him, and prostrate and draw near)]
Allah the Exalted said: [Al-Alaq: 19] It is said regarding (Nay!) what was said regarding the first one before it,The address in His saying: (Do not obey him) means: Do not obey this one who forbids you from prayer, but rather prostrate and do not pay him any attention. If Allah forbade His Prophet from obeying this man, this means that He, Exalted and Majestic, will defend him.Meaning: Do what you are commanded and do not be concerned with this man, and prostrate to Allah, Mighty and Majestic. And what is meant by prostration here is: The prayer; however, prostration was used to refer to the prayer because prostration is a pillar of the prayer, and the prayer is not valid without it, so it was used to refer to it.And his statement: [Al-Anbiya: 97] Meaning: Draw near to Allah, Mighty and Majestic, because the one who prostrates is at his closest to his Lord, as the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said: (The closest a servant is to his Lord is when he is prostrating) And he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: (Know that I have been forbidden to recite the Qur'an while bowing or prostrating. As for bowing, glorify the Lord therein, and as for prostration, increase in supplication, for it is likely that it will be answered for you) Meaning: It is likely that it will be answered for you.
This great surah, as we have heard, is a great surah. Allah the Exalted began it with what He bestowed upon His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) of revelation, and then He concluded it with prostration and drawing near to Allah, Mighty and Majestic.
We ask Allah the Exalted to grant us and you the ability to carry out His obedience and draw near to Him, and to make us among His awliya (close friends of Allah) who are righteous, His party who are successful, and His servants who are righteous. Indeed, He is Generous and Noble.
Allah the Exalted said:
No! Do not obey him. But prostrate and draw near [to Allah].
