The Relationship Between Reliance on Allah and Performing Cesarean Sections
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Your Eminence! Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He, says in Surat 'Abasa: [Abasa:20] So Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He, has guaranteed to facilitate the birth of this child. It is observed that many people, both men and women, rush to perform what is called a cesarean section. Is this a sign of weakness in their reliance on Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He?
I see, may Allah bless you, that this method which people now use when a woman feels labor pains, where she goes to the hospital and they perform a cesarean section on her, I see that this is a suggestion from Satan, and that the harm of this is far greater than its benefit; because the woman must inevitably experience pain during labor, but she benefits from this pain in several ways: The first benefit is that it is an expiation for sins.
The second: It is a raising of ranks if she is patient and seeks reward from Allah.
And the third: It allows the woman to appreciate the status of the mother who experienced what this woman experienced.
And the fourth: It allows her to appreciate the blessing of Allah the Exalted upon her with health.
And the fifth: It increases her tenderness toward her son; because the more difficult it is to obtain something, the more compassionate the soul is toward it and the more affectionate it is.
And the sixth: That the child, or this fetus, exits through its known and customary passages, and in this there is good for him and for the woman.
And the seventh: That she anticipates the harm of the operation; because the operation weakens the uterine lining and so on, and it may result in a tear. It may succeed, and it may not.
And the eighth: That the one who becomes accustomed to cesarean sections hardly returns to natural delivery, because it is not possible for her, and there is a danger that the sites of the operations will tear.
And the ninth: That performing these operations leads to a decrease in offspring, and if the abdomen is cut three times from different places, it becomes weak and fragile, and future pregnancies become dangerous.
And the tenth: That this is a form of luxury, and luxury is a cause of destruction,As Allah the Exalted said regarding the people of the left: [Al-Waqi'ah:45] So it is obligatory for the woman to be patient and seek reward, and to continue giving birth naturally, for that is better for her in the present and in the ultimate outcome.
And men also, they themselves, should be aware of this matter. And what do we know? Perhaps our enemies are the ones who made these operations easy for us in order for us to miss these benefits and fall into these losses.
The questioner: What is the concept of luxury? The Shaykh: Luxury is that it involves avoiding the pain of natural labor, and this is a type of luxury.
And luxury, if it is not a means to help in the obedience of Allah, is either blameworthy or, at the very least, permissible.
Then He eased the way for him;
ثُمَّ السَّبِيلَ يَسَّرَهُI see, may Allah bless you, that this method which people now use when a woman feels labor pains, where she goes to the hospital and they perform a cesarean section on her, I see that this is a suggestion from Satan, and that the harm of this is far greater than its benefit; because the woman must inevitably experience pain during labor, but she benefits from this pain in several ways: The first benefit is that it is an expiation for sins.

Indeed they were, before that, indulging in affluence,
إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا قَبْلَ ذَلِكَ مُتْرَفِينَAnd men also, they themselves, should be aware of this matter. And what do we know? Perhaps our enemies are the ones who made these operations easy for us in order for us to miss these benefits and fall into these losses.
