Ruling on delaying prayer to perform surgical operations
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
As for this question, O honorable Shaykh, it is for the doctors, as they see that they may need longer hours in a surgical operation, during which more than one prayer time may be missed, and interrupting the operation to perform prayer poses a danger to the patient. So what is their time regarding prayer? May Allah reward you with good.
Answer:
This is a legitimate religious excuse if the need arises, just as fighters may be forced to delay prayer. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) on the Day of the Trench was forced to delay the 'Asr prayer until after Maghrib because of the war. And the Companions at Tustar in Iraq during the war with the Persians, when the dawn broke, were unable to perform the Fajr prayer because they were at the gates of the city, some on the walls, and some had descended into the town, so they postponed it until the Duha time.
So if you are in an operation, and if you leave it, that would be a danger to the patient, then complete it even if the time is missed, and pray afterwards. There is no blame on you, and praise be to Allah. This is the correct course.
