The Ruling on Hanging the Qur'an in Homes, and the Meaning of al-Tawlah
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
What is the ruling on one who hangs the Qur'an and verses in the house? And is this what is called al-Tawlah?
As for hanging verses in the house, if the intention is seeking blessing, it is a religious innovation, and likewise if the intention is worship of Allah, it is a religious innovation. If the intention is to remind, there is no basis for it, because those who sit in this gathering may be reminded, and it may be written above their heads the saying of Allah the Exalted: [Al-Hujurat: 12], and their entire gathering is backbiting, and this is a disgrace to the Noble Qur'an.And it may be said: It is of the category of taking the verses of Allah in mockery. Furthermore, the Salaf, who were more eager than we are to remind and caution, did not do this.
Moreover, the matter has now developed so that they write these boards and papers with writings that look like engravings and decorations. They might even write the verse [Saba: 13] in the shape of a mihrab (prayer niche). They write: [Al-Qalam: 1] in the shape of a pen.And perhaps: [Al-Anbiya: 79] written in the shape of a bird, and the mountains written in the shape of a mountain, and the pomegranates written in the shape of pomegranate trees. All of this is wrong. And the scholars have differed on: Is it permissible to write the Qur'an other than in the Uthmani script? How much more so if it is written in these shapes and decorations?! Therefore, I warn against it.And I say: Do not place hanging verses in your private or public gathering. The verses, praise be to Allah, are present in the mushaf (written copy of the Qur'an). Whoever wants to be admonished by them should take them from the mushaf.
As for al-Tawlah, it is something they hang up, claiming that it makes the woman beloved to her husband and the husband beloved to his wife. It is similar to what we call the "dublah" (ring). Some of them write the name of his wife on the ring he wears, and she writes the name of the husband on the ring she wears, and they claim that this is a bond. Some of them, if he has a gold dublah and it is said to him: He said: (The lady will be upset) .
Meaning by "the six" the wife, and it seems she takes an omen as a bad sign if he divorces her by saying he is parting with her.In conclusion: Al-Tawlah is this thing that makes the woman beloved to her husband and the husband beloved to his wife. It has come in the hadith that it is from shirk (associating partners with Allah). So a person should avoid these matters and be sincere to Allah the Mighty and Majestic in his reliance (tawakkul) and worship.
And with this, this session ends. May Allah return us and you to such sessions with goodness, and praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon his family and all his Companions.
