Exegesis of the saying of Allah the Exalted: (Indeed, it is closed upon them)
Allah the Exalted said: [Al-Humazah: 8] Meaning: closed, the doors are closed, no relief is hoped for them—seeking refuge in Allah— [Al-Sajdah: 20] Meaning: they are raised to its doors until they hope to escape, and then they are cast back into it and returned to it. All of this is for the severity of the torment; for when a person hopes for relief and that he will be saved and delivered, he rejoices, but when he is returned, it becomes a new setback. Thus, they are tormented in their souls and their bodies. The torment of the people of the Fire is described in detail in the Noble Qur'an and the Prophetic Sunnah.
[Al-Humazah: 8] Closed; consider now, if a person were in a room or a car that caught fire and had no exit, with the doors closed, what would his state be? He would be in great despair, a despair that nothing can compare to. So they are—seeking refuge in Allah—like this in the Fire; the Fire is closed upon them.
