Defining the Good Deed and the Rank

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
His Eminence the Shaykh: What is the difference between a good deed (hasanah) and a rank (darajah)? Is the rank like the good deed, multiplied tenfold, or not?
The good deed is in the action, and the rank is in the reward.Allah the Exalted said:
And for all are degrees from what they have doneوَلِكُلٍّ دَرَجَاتٌ مِمَّا عَمِلُوا
[Al-Haqqah: 19] And He said:
Whoever comes [on the Day of Judgement] with a good deed will have ten times the like thereof [to his credit]مَنْ جَاءَ بِالْحَسَنَةِ فَلَهُ عَشْرُ أَمْثَالِهَا
[Al-An'am: 160] So the good deed is a description of the action, and the rank is a description of the reward. In Paradise, there are one hundred ranks that Allah the Exalted has prepared for those who strive in His path.
