The ruling on gathering travelers and reciting the Verse of the Throne over them

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
His Eminence the Shaykh: There are certain actions that some people perform when they go out to the open countryside. They sit down, and then their father or one of the people recites the Verse of the Throne and the chapters of seeking refuge (al-Mu'awwidhat), and then draws a line around the place or the house. What is the ruling on this action?

The brother asks: When some people go out for a rest or a picnic, they gather, then draw a line over them, and then the eldest among them—whether a father, a brother, or someone else—recites the Verse of the Throne over them. This is a religious innovation (bid'ah), and it was not known in the time of the righteous predecessors (al-Salaf). What is prescribed is that each one of them should recite the Verse of the Throne, because whoever recites it in the night will have a protector from Allah over him, and no Shaytan will approach him until he becomes morning. The Sunnah is that they should be taught and it should be said: Each one of you should recite the Verse of the Throne.
