Some people, when they go out to the open countryside, gather together and their father reads Ayat al-Kursi and the Mu'awwidhat for them, then he draws a line around the place. What is the ruling?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : Your Eminence, there are some actions that some people perform, namely when they go out to a place in the open countryside, they sit down, and then their father or one of the people reads Ayat al-Kursi and the Mu'awwidhat, and then he draws a line around the place. What is the ruling on this action, or on the house?

The Shaykh : You heard the brother's question: that some people, when they go out for a rest or a picnic, all gather together, then they draw a line around them, and then the eldest among them, whether a father, a brother, or the like, reads Ayat al-Kursi for them, is that right?
This is a religious innovation (bid'ah). This was not known in the time of the righteous predecessors (Salaf). What is prescribed is that each one of them reads Ayat al-Kursi, because whoever reads it in the night, a protector from Allah remains with him, and no Shaytan approaches him until he becomes morning. So the recommended practice (sunnah) is that they should be taught and it should be said: each one of you reads Ayat al-Kursi.

The questioner : O Shaykh, one on the right, then on the left, then in the middle.

The Shaykh : The middle is a little, in any case, these questions, my brothers, you see, are for everyone, meaning we all benefit from them, yes.
