Exegesis of His saying, the Exalted: (And He made abhorrent to you disbelief, open sinfulness, and disobedience)

Allah the Exalted said:
and has made hateful to you disbelief, defiance and disobedienceوَكَرَّهَ إِلَيْكُمُ الْكُفْرَ وَالْفُسُوقَ وَالْعِصْيَانَ
[Surah al-Hujurat: 7] He made abhorrent to you disbelief, which is the opposite of faith, open sinfulness, which is the opposite of uprightness, and disobedience, which is the opposite of perfection. This is a progression from the highest to what is below it; disbelief is greater than open sinfulness, and open sinfulness is greater than disobedience. So disbelief: Disbelief is the complete exit from Islam. It has known causes mentioned by the scholars of jurisprudence (may Allah have mercy on them) in the chapter on the rulings of the apostate. As for open sinfulness, it is less than disbelief, but it is the commission of a major sin; that is, a person commits one of the major sins, such as unlawful sexual intercourse, drinking intoxicants, theft, or falsely accusing someone of zina, and does not repent from it. Disobedience is less than this; it consists of minor sins, which are expiated by good deeds. As the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: (The five prayers, the Friday prayer to the next Friday prayer, and Ramadan to the next Ramadan, are expiations for what occurs between them, provided that major sins are avoided). The pure believers are those to whom Allah has made faith beloved and adorned it in their hearts, and made abhorrent to them disbelief, open sinfulness, and disobedience. We ask Allah to make us among them.
(Those are the ones who are rightly guided). "Those" refers to the ones to whom Allah has made faith beloved and adorned it in their hearts, and made abhorrent to them disbelief, open sinfulness, and disobedience. (Those are the ones who are rightly guided) means those who have taken the path of right guidance. Right guidance, in its original sense, is good conduct, and it is defined according to its context. Right guidance in wealth is for a person to conduct himself well with it and not spend it on what is of no benefit. And right guidance in the guardianship of marriage, for example: It is for the guardian to be knowledgeable about the suitability of the match and the interests of the marriage. And right guidance in religion: It is uprightness upon the religion of Allah (Mighty and Majestic). These are the ones to whom Allah has made faith beloved and adorned it in their hearts, and made abhorrent to them disbelief, open sinfulness, and disobedience; they are the rightly guided.
