Exegesis of the saying of Allah the Exalted: (And the fig and the olive)

Allah, Mighty and Majestic, says: In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful:
(1) By the fig and the olive (2) And [by] Mount Sinai (3) And [by] this secure city [Makkah],وَالتِّينِ وَالزَّيْتُونِ * وَطُورِ سِينِينَ * وَهَذَا الْبَلَدِ الْأَمِينِ
[Al-Tin:1-3] to the end of the surah.

So His saying (Glorified and Exalted is He):
(1) By the fig and the olive (2) And [by] Mount Sinai (3) And [by] this secure city [Makkah],وَالتِّينِ وَالزَّيْتُونِ * وَطُورِ سِينِينَ * وَهَذَا الْبَلَدِ الْأَمِينِ
[Al-Tin:1-3] An oath by these four things, where Allah the Exalted swore by the fig and the olive, Mount Sinai, and this secure land,Meaning: Mecca, because the surah is Meccan, so the one being referred to is near, and it is Mecca. The fig is the well-known fruit, and so is the olive. Allah swore by them because they are abundant in Palestine. As for Mount Sinai, Allah swore by it because it is the mountain at which Allah spoke to Moses (peace and blessings be upon him and his family). And as for this secure land, Allah swore by it, meaning Mecca, because it is the most beloved of places to Allah and the most noble of places in the sight of Allah (Mighty and Majestic).

Some of the scholars of knowledge said: Allah swore by these three because the first, the fig and the olive, is the land of Palestine where the prophets were, and the last of the prophets of the Children of Israel is 'Isa ibn Maryam (peace and blessings be upon him). And by Mount Sinai, because it is the mountain around which Allah the Exalted revealed to Moses. As for the secure land, it is Mecca, from which Allah sent Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him and his family).

The scholars said: And the meaning of His saying: (And Mount Sinai) is: the length of blessing, because Allah the Exalted described it, or described what surrounds it, as the sacred valley.
