The questioner : Is there zakah in olives or olive oil? And likewise in pomegranates and figs, because we live in an area where these trees are abundant?

The Shaykh : There is no zakah in these trees; rather, zakah is due on dates and grapes. As for olives, pomegranates, oranges, apples, and citrons, there is no zakah on any of them. However, if a person sells them and receives cash, and that cash remains with him for a full year, then zakah becomes obligatory on it, and it is zakah on cash, not zakah on fruits.
