Ruling on refraining from having children out of fear of the children contracting a disease
Your Eminence! May Allah forgive you. A man married and had several children, then it became clear to him that one of his wife's relatives has leprosy. Is it permissible for him to stop having children out of fear of this disease, given that all his children are healthy?
This is due to his ignorance. If he wanted to stop having children because some of his wife's relatives have leprosy, this is undoubtedly a sign of his foolishness and his bad opinion of Allah (Mighty and Majestic); because we see people who have this disease and their children are safe from it, and we see people of whom we do not know that they have leprosy, yet their children were afflicted with it. So a person should not take an omen as a bad sign, but rather he should rely on and place his trust in Allah, and he should have children. On this occasion, I would like to clarify to you that the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) loved for the Ummah to increase; And therefore he said: (Marry those who are loving and fertile) and he said: (Indeed, Allah did not send a prophet except that He gave him of the signs what would make people believe in its like, but what I was given is a revelation that Allah revealed to me, so I hope that I will be the most followed of them on the Day of Resurrection) Look at how the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) wished for the increase of the Ummah,And we, unfortunately, say: stopping the birth of children, regulating the birth of children! So I say: increasing the birth of children, and Allah the Exalted takes charge of their provision,As Allah the Exalted said:
We will provide for you and themنَحْنُ نَرْزُقُكُمْ وَإِيَّاهُمْ
[Al-An'am: 151] So tell this brother: continue having children and do not stop, and he will not see any harm, if Allah wills.
