The possibility of a servant seeing his Lord in a dream, but not while awake
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Your Eminence! Is it permissible to see Allah (Mighty and Majestic) in a dream, or is it not?
Seeing Allah the Exalted in this world while awake is not possible. The evidence for this is that Musa (peace be upon him), who was among the best of the messengers and one of the five resolute prophets,[Al-A'raf 7:143] Allah said to him: [Al-A'raf 7:143] The mountain crumbled before Musa while he was watching [Al-A'raf: 143] He fainted because he witnessed something his soul could not bear [Al-A'raf: 143] So he repented to Allah for this question, because it was a question about what is impossible, and asking Allah for what is impossible is transgression in supplication,And Allah Mighty and Majestic says: [Al-A'raf: 55] So he repented to Allah. Therefore, seeing Allah in this world is not possible while awake, even the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not see his Lord on the night of the Mi'raj. He was asked, "Did you see your Lord?"He said: (I saw a light) And in another wording, (A light, how could I see Him?) Meaning: There were great veils of light between me and Him. It has come in the hadith in the authentic collections that Allah (Mighty and Majestic) is veiled by light,So he said: (His veil is light. If He were to remove it, the radiance of His Face would burn up everything that His vision reaches of His creation) Meaning: His brilliance and greatness. If this light between Him and the creation were removed, all of creation would burn up; because His vision reaches everything, so everything would burn up with this great light.
And with this we say: It is not possible.
As for in a dream, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) saw his Lord in a dream. But is it possible for others to see Him? It is mentioned that Imam Ahmad (may Allah have mercy on him) saw his Lord, and some scholars mentioned that this is possible, so Allah knows best.
I do not know.
And I fear that if the door is opened, the Sufi shaykhs and others will come in and say: Last night I saw my Lord, and I sat with Him, and we chatted and discussed. Then people of baseless fabrications will come, so I see that closing this door is better.
Seeing Allah the Exalted in this world while awake is not possible. The evidence for this is that Musa (peace be upon him), who was among the best of the messengers and one of the five resolute prophets,
he said, "My Lord, show me [Yourself] that I may look at You."
You will not see Me, but look at the mountain; if it should remain in place, then you will see Me." But when his Lord appeared to the mountain, He rendered it level
And Musa fell unconscious.
And when he awoke, he said, "Exalted are You! I have repented to You, and I am the first of the believers."
Call upon your Lord in humility and privately; indeed, He does not like transgressors.
And with this we say: It is not possible.
