The Regulator of Emotion and How to Guide the Emotional Person

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Your Eminence! Is emotion an obstacle to steadfastness? And how do we guide the emotional person to benefit from his strong emotion in what is beneficial for him?
Everything requires emotion; if emotion were to die, a person would not be a human being. Emotion drives a person to progress, so it is necessary; however, it needs regulation and a balance. For example: If a person, for example, is not satisfied with society or the rulers, and he has strong emotions,We tell him: Be patient.
You have this jealousy and this emotion. Was that a love for revenge, or a love for establishing the Shari'ah?Answer: If it is a love for revenge, it is ruinous. And if it is a love for establishing the Shari'ah, we say: Come.

It is established from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said: (The best of people are my generation, then those who follow them, then those who follow them). Look at how these three preferred generations dealt with the rulers. Although there were among the rulers of that time, after the Rightly Guided Caliphs, those whose actions were blameworthy, they nonetheless dealt with the governors in a manner that required obedience and submission, as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded. The Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) even informed us that if the governors or caliphs and commanders delay the prayer from its time, we perform what Allah has made obligatory upon us and pray the prayer in its time, and we leave them. But if the prayer catches up with us while we are with them, we pray with them. So we pray in the time, and if they delay and the prayer catches up with us while we are with them, we pray, and it becomes a voluntary prayer for us.
And explain to him the treatment of Imam Ahmad (may Allah have mercy on him) of al-Ma'mun, and of al-Ma'mun and others who afflicted him and harmed him.

And we say to him: Look at Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah, who was harmed by the rulers, and look at his writings to them and his gentleness with them.
And explain to him that this is the way of the Salaf.
And here, in my opinion, if his emotion is for Allah (Mighty and Majestic), this emotion will calm down. But if it is for the love of revenge, it is ruinous without a doubt.
