The Correct Treatment for One Afflicted by the Possession of Jinn

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Your Eminence! One of our brothers sent us a question in which he says: We are in need of da'is (preachers), and yet one of us has become occupied with treating those possessed by jinn. Is it permissible to suspend the da'wah (calling to Islam) for the sake of this work? How should the correct work of treating the possessed be carried out? And is it permissible to make taking money a condition, such that he does not treat without it?
Calling to Allah the Exalted and Glorious is a collective obligation (fard kifayah). If a sufficient number of people perform it, the obligation falls off the rest. If it becomes an individual obligation for a specific person such that no one else can take his place, then it takes precedence over reciting over one who is possessed by jinn. This is because the benefit of the da'wah is a certain benefit, whereas the benefit of reciting over one possessed by jinn is an uncertain benefit. How many people have been recited to and gained nothing from it! So one must look at the situation. If the da'wah is an individual obligation for this man, and no one else can take his place in it, then he must call to Allah, even if he leaves off reciting over one possessed by jinn. However, if it is a collective obligation, he should look at what is most beneficial. If it is possible to combine the two—and it appears that combining them is possible—by allocating a day for this and days for that according to importance, then he will have done good to his brothers who were afflicted with this affliction, while continuing to call to Allah the Exalted and Glorious. If combining the two is possible, that is the better course.
As for the correct treatment for one possessed by jinn, it varies; but the best thing is that the Qur'an be recited over him;Such as the saying of Allah the Exalted:
(33) O company of jinn and mankind, if you are able to pass beyond the regions of the heavens and the earth, then pass. You will not pass except by authority [from Allah]. (34) So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny? (35) There will be sent upon you a flame of fire and smoke, and you will not defend yourselves. (36) So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?
[Surah al-Rahman: 33-36] because this is a challenge to them that they cannot escape from Allah the Exalted and Glorious. Also, the two chapters of protection (al-Mu'awwidhatayn), "Say: He is Allah, the One" (Surah al-Ikhlas), and the Verse of the Throne should be recited over them. He should also speak to them with admonition, as it is mentioned that the Shaykh al-Islam used to admonish them,And he says to them: saying, "This is forbidden for you, and it is not permissible for you to harm the Muslims, or wrong them, or the like of that."
As for taking money, if he does not take money, that is better and closer to sincerity and benefit. If he takes it without making it a condition, there is no harm. And if those over whom he recited have left what is obligatory for the reciter, and he refuses to recite except for a fee, there is no harm, just as the people of the detachment sent by the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did. They descended upon a people who did not host them, so Allah the Exalted sent a scorpion upon their master, and it stung him. They asked for someone to recite over him,So they said: saying, "Perhaps these people who have descended upon you can recite over him," so they came to them,So they said: and they said, "We will not recite over him except for so much and so much—a flock of sheep"—and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) approved this.
