Treatment of Jinn Possession by the So-Called Arab Doctor

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa No. ( 6913 ):
Q: One night, my brother, who is 15 years old, was walking on foot in a valley in the south. He said that he found a body that appeared to him as a (Qatwa). He said that this body walked with him for a distance of approximately one kilometer. He experienced severe nervous tension and his jaws clenched together. He said that this animal walked with him, sometimes on his right, sometimes on his left, sometimes behind him, and sometimes in front of him. He said that he tried many times to remember Allah but could not. Then he said that he tried to move in a way to keep this body away from him, but he could not do that either. Then, according to him, it suddenly disappeared. He continued his walk until he reached home. He remained for a period of about two weeks suffering from nervous and mental disturbance. Then he had a seizure, and he was taken to Dammam and I took him to the hospital. However, some friends told me: Your brother is suffering from madness, and he has indeed seen the jinn. This is what they told me, and hospital treatment is of no use in this case; rather, you must go to an Arab doctor. As a result of my brother's illness, I was compelled to go to a man in Dammam who said that he treats jinn diseases. When we arrived at him, he seated the boy in front of him and began to say the takbir (Allahu Akbar) and send blessings upon the Prophet in a loud voice. Then he said words in a low voice that we did not know what they were. Then he put water in a
cup and recited al-Fatihah and some words I did not hear over the water, and made the boy drink it. Then he gave us frankincense and said, meaning for the boy: Burn this frankincense under our supervision. Then we went back to him again, and he recited over the boy as he had recited the previous time, and said what he had said. Then he said: Continue with me for six sessions, one session per week, and after that we will write his name in our records and see if he has a treatment with us or not. Then he said that we observe the boy while he is burning the incense, and that we observe what is in Najran and Abha and many other regions. He said that he knows the patient in Kuwait . On the other hand, he does not take money except what the individual gives him without him asking for it. As for the boy's health, it has improved by the will of Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He. Also, I, praise be to Allah, have a firm belief, by the will of Allah, as firm as the mountains, and I have no slightest doubt that the One who benefits and harms is Allah alone, without any other. My going to this person was not because I believed that he would cure my brother, but my belief at that time and at all times is that none but Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He, will cure my brother. I hope you will guide me, first, what should I do? Should I continue taking my brother to this person, or do you advise me otherwise? Second: What is the validity of this person's treatment of people in this manner from the Shari'ah perspective?

A: If the situation is as described, then what is in your brother is possession by
the jinn, and its treatment is by the Shari'ah-prescribed ruqyah (healing by Qur'anic recitation), such as reciting the Qur'an, including Surat al-Fatihah, and
Say, "He is Allah, [who is] One,قُلْ هُوَ اللَّهُ أَحَدٌ
[Al-Ikhlas 112:1]
and
Say, "I seek refuge in the Lord of daybreakقُلْ أَعُوذُ بِرَبِّ الْفَلَقِ
[Al-Falaq 113:1]
and
Say, "I seek refuge in the Lord of mankind,قُلْ أَعُوذُ بِرَبِّ النَّاسِ
[An-Nas 114:1]
and the Verse of the Throne, and other chapters and verses of the Qur'an, and the dhikr and Prophetic supplications established from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), such as:
I seek refuge for both of you in the perfect words of Allah from every devil and every poisonous thing and from the evil eye which influencesأعيذك بكلمات الله التامة، من كل شيطان وهامة، ومن كل عين لامة
Sunan Abi Dawud 4737Sahih (Al-Albani)
, and such as:
“Remove the hardship and suffering. Lord of mankind, and grant healing, for You are the Healer and there is no healing except Your healing; (grant) healing which does not leave any sickness behind.`أذهب البأس، رب الناس، اشف أنت الشافي، لا شفاء إلاَّ شفاؤك، شفاء لا يغادر سقمًا
Musnad Ahmad 565Sahih because of corroborating evidence; this is a Da'if (weak)
. And refer to the book [Al-Kalim al-Tayyib] by Ibn Taymiyyah , and [Al-Wabil al-Sayyib] by Ibn al-Qayyim , and [Al-Adhkar al-Nawawiyyah] by al-Nawawi , to learn from them the dhikr and supplications that suit your brother's illness, to recite them over
him or for him to recite them over himself. We advise you not to return to that man or anyone like him to treat your brother or anyone else. For even if he hit the mark in reciting al-Fatihah, he spoke with words he kept secret, hiding them, over water in the cup and made him drink the water. What he spoke of in secret may be shaitanic amulets and seeking help from the jinn. This is from fortune-telling, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade going to fortune-tellers. In the Shari'ah-prescribed ruqyah, there is sufficiency in going to fortune-tellers. And what he mentioned to you about observing what is in Najran and Abha and other regions indicates his fortune-telling and his use of the jinn. May Allah cure your brother and keep us and you firm upon the truth. And success is from Allah. And may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
