Treating a patient possessed by jinn by reciting verses from the Qur'an over him
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The first question of fatwa number ( 9645 ):
Q1: Some of our brothers perform the extraction of jinn from a patient by reciting verses from the Qur'an. These brothers claimed, while treating a case, that Jibril (peace be upon him) descended from the sky and assisted them in extracting the jinn. This has caused discord and disagreement among the people. We ask you to clarify the matter and provide a response. Does Jibril (peace be upon him) descend after the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), either to assist someone as they claimed, or for any other reason?
A1: It is permissible to treat a patient possessed by jinn by reciting verses from the Qur'an over him, or a surah, or surahs from it over him; because ruqyah (healing by Qur'anic recitation) with the Qur'an is established by the Shari'ah. As for the descent of Jibril for this purpose, we know no basis for it. And success is from Allah. May Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
